Description Sanctuary Atoll, an obcure island in the tropics of a distant habitable world. Hideaway for the rich and notorious.

The base environment and ships are 3D. I painted in the base, birds and some image effects in photoshop.

I hope you enjoy it!

Thank you so much! The island in the sea was created in the digital environment named Vue by Eon-software.com

Sculpting and populating the island with vegetation and stone, tweaking the water and putting the sun and camera to show it best prior to rendering it. Then adding elements such as the city and sea birds. Very fun to do!

Fantastic work! It is a great method to add some reality to your image, and improve the reality of the painting, and vice versa, to take some reality and make it a bit mystical and curious.
Very well done!

It took me a few seconds to realize that the metal ship was not just a "blimp". It caught me off guard! Bravo!

Thank you very much. I love using Vue since the environments you can create with it seem so realistic given just a little time. The rest is in the camera position/angle and lighting.

I decided on photoshoping in the birds and structure as I really didn't want to spend TOO much time on it... and also needed to get used to using a drawing pad to 'paint'.

So it was good practice all around for me and I was happy with it.

Thanks for the comment!

You are most welcome!

I use a small Intuos4. It is a marvelous tool. I wish I could afford the Wacom digital canvas, the Cintiq.

I used to be a purist, for 2D or 3D, but as time went on, I learned it is better to create a marvelous image, rather than a mediocre dimensional-purist image. I have been combining my 2D and 3D stuff for quite a while now. I think it opens up so many more capabilities and new work boulevards for creativity and image execution.

Have some fun today!

I was used to painting, myself... time-consuming and messy... prep work and all that... and no undo button lol.

I've done a lot of 3d as well but for work... now it's more for myself. Much more fun!

As for the drawing pad, I use the little bamboo for now until i get used to it... but will ultimately get the cintiq. Spinning the bamboo around as I would for a piece of art paper just doesn't work well for me. ><

I hear ya on the table usage. Fortunately, Photoshop has a spinner built-in, so I rotate the image on the screen. It is much easier.
