To answer your question about what kind of tree this is:
It is a 'Bloodgood' Japanese Maple. the latin name being *Acer palmatum 'Bloodgood'*
-Possibly one of the most common, none the less beautiful, landscape trees.

It IS called a Japanese maple though ^___^ I just thought you wanted to know the Japanese version. I don't know that one.
