Description Right now I am coping with the devastating wildfires that happened on Maui. My heart breaks for all the people who lost their lives, and for the people who lost their homes. It’s so frustrating being so close by and feeling like I can’t do much. I’ve been drawing as a way of coping, as I always have, but I have also been spreading the word through instagram on ways to help. I’ve always felt a disconnect to my native hawaiian heritage, I was never really immersed in it as much as I wanted, but I do feel for the native hawaiians and all locals who have struggled to live here, and now they are struggling more than ever. I cry every day for the people who died, whenever I see the long list of missing persons. So I draw the things that never caught my interest before. I’ll be drawing more Hawaii.

Here is the indigenous bird, I’iwi (ee-ee-vee), or the scarlet honeycreeper. It uses it’s long, curved beak to drink nectar from flowers. It’s also recognizable by its bright read plumage (not seen here). They are currently endagered due to loss of habitat, invasive predators, and disease.
