Finally finished Our of Guadalupe.U probably know the story about it but if not heres the link [link] way here are some facts about the picture.
1. She stands before the sun.Indians worshiped the sun as a god,If the sun did not rise they believed their god was angry and sacrificed a human victim.Since Mary was clothed in the sun this proved to them that her God was more powerfull.
2.The color of her mantle was a sign of her virginity,it was also the color of royalty,and also the color that the Indian godesses wore.The stars on the mantle R the exact constellation as in the sky the night of Dec 12,her feast day.The Indians lived by the stars and here she wore them to show that her God was more powerful than the stars.
3. Head bowed. Indian culture gods and godesses looked U strait in the eye 2 show their power,Mary with her head bowed showed that she was neither a god nor a godess,but that there was a higher power above her.
4.Fur Cuffs symbolized royalty.
5. the black sash in both Indian and Spanish culture means pregnancy and new life,indicating that she is pregnant with the child Jesus.
6.The Jewish dress of 2ooo years ago,Mary was Jewish
7.The gold thread in the dress-Gold was important to the Spaniards.
8. The Crested moon-The Indians worshiped a stone serpant and was symbolized by the moon.Mary's feet are standing firmly on the moon,symbolizing she is crushing their god.Guadalupe in the Indian language means "Crusher of the Stone serpant"

10.The angel shows that she is a heavenly being.Its wings are the color of the Mayan Flag.
