Description I really had the urge to draw this image. They are also my younger daughter's two favorite characters from the show, and that was a major reason for the choice of image as well.

I loved that show and this was one of my favorite episodes.

It is From Xena: Warrior Princess - Season Five - Episode 9 - "Seeds of Faith"

~ Eli is praying for guidance. Angel-Callisto shows as an answer, saying that he will do what is necessary. Eli asks if there is no other way, and she answers that there isn't. For the new to be built, it must be over the old. He is the hammer that will crack the old order. Then with a kiss in his cheek, she leaves him. ~

NOTE: There are two places in the image that are damaged a tad. Somehow they got a small chunk almost out of the paper. One on each of their faces. Didn't see how, so no clue, but I decided to leave them in (not alter on computer) since they are really there. OK so I am honest, it is just how I am.

NOTE 2: The original image is much darker. So much so that you cannot see what his hair looks like. However, I didn't know to make it seem like there was just a large dark area. At least not with what I was using. I also still feel her nose is not quite big enough.

I have no idea how many hours total, since I drew it at work, but I would guess over 20.

Free hand, I have yet to use a grid.

This has to be the most detailed, realistic and amazing piece you have done so far! your skill is advancing tremendously.

you are well on your way to becoming an amazing artist.

suggestions i would give you are:
with the hair, try drawings lines, more detailed lines in dark and light hair. even though i know hair is most tedious thing ever in a portrait sometimes but it will pay off if you make darker more prominent lines in hair.

you detail on the facial hair is amazing! and i am thoroughly impressed. no complaints nor suggestions needed on the facial hair

Thank you Coming from you it means a lot! Note.. I had a hard time with his hair because it isn't straight it is a wildness and in the original image, before I lightened it so I could see features better, it is all just black. Can't see any of the hair itself. I thought of making it dark dark, but without ink, didn't think it would turn out so well and ink would have been overkill.

Again. Thank you. and OMG Hair!... my hands hurt today from all that facial hair. LOL

Yeah. something dark but not overwhelming. I added a link to the reference image too. Figured that was a good idea.

Okay first off the values look really good. The shading technique is also very good, especially on the girls face. I really like the highlights on her temple and cheeks, it makes it very realistic. However you should have been more patient with the background, there are some strokes there that don't look that good. But there is an easy way to hide them, by simply adding a gradient: what I mean is to make the upper part/area slightly darker then the lower area. This will further increase its depth.
But all in all, you did a good job with their faces and their expressions, you just need to work on the background
