If you have any tips, that would be really great!

okay i'll try to explain some things, and i hope you understand it cause my english is pretty low

okay at first, wich tools do you use ? i do all my sprites with paint and mouse

okay let's start

at first you should choose your colors, they should fit together and give a harmonic overall picture
you shouldn't take more than 4-5 colors because otherwise it will look a little bit "chaotic"

the color gradiations should have enough contrast, but not too much you have to practise this a few times befor you get an eye for it
this is an example of too low contrast (one of my older pokemon splices) xD [link]

okay, after you have choosen your colors you start with the outlines (use pure black for them) some people manage this better if they use the paint tools, circles etc.

you should start with simple shapes otherwise you'll get in trouble with the correct shading afterwards
a human brain needs extreme much exercise to create complex 3d shapes and shade them correctly, so you need to practise and practise over and over again (i still have big troubles with shading and im spriting almost 1 1/2 year xD)

at last you should color the outlines, there is a basic formula for this
the outlines should always be darker than the "filling" but they should be brighter on brighter spots and darker on darker spots

sometimes it looks good if youd switch between a darker an brighter gradiations for small parts (like one of 2 of 3 pixel dark and one bright)

yeah not much more to say for the moment.., i hope you have not missunderstand it, and i wish i could explain it better but my english is so horrible !

greets
