I love literally everything about this. Mr. Tough-guy's shell finally breaking. The purity of the emotions of both parents. Your amazing art style.

This kind of quality fanwork is why I'm still in the Sonic fandom after 20 years.

Knux may act tough but he's a big mush underneath, I am convinced and no one can change my mind.

Wait why does Quartz have brown eyes

Rouge's mother had brown eyes, Rouge has a gene called "dominate white" it causes her to have blue eyes and white hair despite the fact she also carries the genes for brown eyes and hair.

Adorable and beautiful x3 Knuckles and Rouge would make very good parents. Just hope for Knuckles' sake that the kid is an echidna (or, if not, then future children are echidnas lol)

And couldn't agree more with how annoying births are depicted in most media! Especially with how pretty much all of them insist that epidurals are a must, and those who planned to go natural instantly change their mind. *Smh* So I'm more than love the clear implication that Rouge did a water birth ;D And seemingly had a fine, if tough, time

I was going to do a water birth but developed severe pre-eclampsia and had to be induced a month early. The hospital wouldn't let me use a tub because they figure stabbing someone in the spine with a needle is somehow safer then letting you soak in a tub -_- but due to the high blood pressure and induction my contractions were so severe I would have had a seizure if we didn't do some kind of pain management and epidural was basically the only option available to me. As soon as there are any complications you loose all control of the situation and the hospital decided what's best for you... the same hospital that then overdosed me on magnesium after Rick was born because no one thought it might be a bad idea to give a standard adult dose to a literal dwarf. My son was taken to the nicu because I was too sick from the magnesium to feed him, it took 12 hours before finally someone realized the dosage was to high, they took me off, I had a seizure then was put back on at a half dose that they then realized was still too high and had to half it again...

Suffice to say I didn't trust hospitals before, I trust them even less now. But not going to the hospital wasn't an option.

That said my mom had both my siblings naturally, my sister was pretty easy actually and I got to watch my brothers birth, he was born in our house with a midwife. My mom's friend even gave birth to her daughter in our bathtub by accident, her back was hurting and she took a bath, didn't realize she was in labor till she was far enough along it was easier to just do it herself in the tub, then go wake me mom up to take her and her daughter to the hospital. Willow was perfectly healthy and the whole affair was so chill my siblings and I didn't even hear a thing. We just woke up the next day to a new baby.

Women have been giving birth since the dawn of time, it's a natural process and barring actual medical complications most women are perfectly capable of doing it without drugs or even hospitals. It's all a matter of learning about your body and how it works, but instead of encouraging women to learn how to do it themselves our culture consistently implies that doctors (often men btw) know better and women can't just do it themselves.

Yeah, I remember the story all too well from your first drawing of Rick (or second?), and I'm so sorry that turn of events happened T_T And indeed, pre-eclampsia is one of few exceptions when a hospital birth is necessary. Now if only hospitals were actually good with maternity care (as I've read up, US hospitals are THE worst with births, and unsurprisingly US has the highest childbirth deaths of "developed" countries). Otherwise, natural and birthing centers are the way to go

I see! That's very cool lol I bet Willow is told this story many times when visiting you guys

Amen to that! It's high time men stop thinking they know better about women topics than women themselves, and butt out of those businesses

it's worth noting, my character Nira is a midwife. She has a variety of other miscellaneous skills but her chosen profession is midwifery.

I think some water births are more soothing then natural birth( that's what I heard from mothers who had done it themselves).

KaoticKanine In reply to ROXYJAM101 [2019-06-01 22:51:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I would think so lol The water not only helps with "lubrication" (assuming that works), but warm water helps with the pain of labor and the birth itself. About the only thing I can think water doesn't have over natural (specifically squatting) is the assistance of gravity

Wait did rouge do water birth?*Gasppppppp*😱😱😱 was Quartz born in water?

angelamyrose In reply to ROXYJAM101 [2019-06-01 19:05:01 +0000 UTC]

Indeed she was. In knuckles culture their god of the ocean is also seen as a protector of children so water births weren't an uncommon thing on angel island back in the day with the circular pools designed to imitate the gate of rebirth, the place in the realm of the gods where souls of the dead pass through to be born again in the mortal realm. Also while she's not in this picture Nira serves as midwife to a number of the other characters, she's got a lot of experience both delivering and having babies.

sweet babe. Also not every birth in fiction needs to be an over the top mess of screaming and dad abuse

Seriously though it's kind of obnoxious all the stereotypes in fiction regarding labor, especially the ones presenting women in labor and screeching, irrational, monsters. It's like all people know about labor is that it hurts. It doesn't hurt constantly labor pains come from contractions which come in waves and get closer together and more intense as you go. Some women are super chill through the whole process, some take longer others are quicker, every woman and every baby is different.
