Description
So next pick in my set of family photos these pictures are non diegetic and more for reference so for the sake of consistency I'm drawing all the characters at the game casts' cannon ages. At 15 Sonic's parent's weren't in his life and he and his siblings were just starting to reconnect after non seeing each other since they were 8. That said Sonic's parents still looked about like this when he last saw them as a little kid they didn't change a lot in that time besides just getting older. The name Needlemouse is a reference to an old translation error and decided to use it here cause I feel like just hedgehog doesn't work as a last name when loads of unrelated hedgehogs exist. Also I think Needle feels appropriate for the families over all kind of mild rock grudge undertones.

Queen Aleena's hair to me always read like they were going for 90's hair band which fit with the general rock aesthetic of the show. I also imagine there's a whole hair culture for quilled mobians like hedgehogs and echidnas and such. Echidna's traditionally soften their quills then twist them into dreads. With my hedgehog characters you get some who soften and or straiten their hair like Amy and Silver and others who just wear their natural hair and growing your natural hair out long as a hedgehog is a bit of a challenge and I imagine Aleena has always been very proud of her volumous natural hair and puts a lot of maintenance into it.

For Sonic's dad I wanted to base him off of Archie Sonic. Archie Sonic ranges a lot in how he's drawn but there's a point where it started to move away from the look of satam but before it started adjusting to look more like the adventure era games. During this time Sonic usually had his quill durl down a lot more and often reach all the way down to his tail along with a little bit of muscle definition, a barrel chest and twiggy limbs. It's real off model compared to the games but very distinct to archie and the couple artists who drew him that way so used that for my design inspiration because I needed him to look different from Sonic or Nicky and wanted a look that felt evocative of archie Sonic. Also Scourge is a parallel version of Maurice in Reborn Scourge was never blue he's always been green.
