Description

Don’t think I ever posted my Leaf Mimic piece from the Light Grey Art Lab Camouflage show! Prints are currently available through the gallery.

“A member of the family Phylliidae, they are also called leaf insects or walking leaves. Found throughout Southeast Asia and Australia, their bodies perfectly take on the appearance of leaves, some species even featuring damage spots, holes, vein patterns, and crinkled edges. As they walk they rock their bodies back and forth to mimic leaf blowing in the wind. “

I spent 2 hours browsing society6 looking for a design I wanted as a bath towel. This was a clear winner the moment I saw it.

I'm also waiting for some actual phyllium giganteum to arrive next week

Thank you! Oo, what are the lifespans on those?

No idea since I have never had this species before. Big insects tend to live longer. Mantises I got this summer should live to be 10 months but there are significant differences between genders. Bigger cockroaches I have can usually live 2 years but sometimes even 5!

Wow, 5 years, insane! Ever think about getting a goliath beetle? That's been at the back of my mind for a while.

I'm very interested in large beetles but don't have room atm. Also those can be expensive and I most likely would have to order abroad. What I really want to get is Damon diadema. Those have just been sold out everywhere I look (in EU). I live quite north and can only order during few warm summer months.

You did very well with this Angela.

I saw some enclosed in cases along with various other insects. So many sizes and forms from big and dark to long and dull.
