Description
His thumbs were moving at what seemed like the speed of light itself; his eyes glued to the large television set in front of him. Beside him sat his personal laptop, a cord connecting it to his screen. His body didn’t move; not one single inch. This was how he performed at his best.
And when he was performing at his best, you knew that he was getting irritated.
You had been roommates with the redhead since your freshman year in college. The college you both attended had inter-sex dorm policies, and you didn’t really mind the idea of sharing a room with a male. This was one of the most prestigious schools in the world, and a trivial matter such as sharing a room with a man mattered not to you. However, when you found out about his hobbies, it made you wonder how he managed to get into a school such as this.
The first time the two of you began to forge your bond was in class. The two of you had physiology together, and your professor had paired you together when he assigned the first major project of the semester. The teacher had paired you, the Valedictorian graduate, with the man who was smart as a college professor, but lacked motivation. It seemed as though teachers were always out to pair you with people who weren’t motivated like yourself.
However, it turned out your partner did much more than you originally expected he would. Once you had scolded him for doing nothing but game all day, and it appeared to flip some sort of switch in his mind. No sooner had you scolded him did he put the controller down, and get straight to work. It made your confidence in him return, and you slowly began to realize why he was accepted into this prestigious academy.
He was a man who, on the outside, seemed like nothing more than a lazy, couch-potato gamer. However, once he set his mind to something, he got it done; no matter how long it took him. This was what attracted you to him in the beginning.
But enough of the story of how you two met. That is only a minor importance in this tale.

“Kakyoin… are you going to be alright?”
You set down the glass of water you had previously been carrying on the coffee table; you were happy to bring him water whenever he played games during his free time.
He gave a low huff as he set his remote down on the carpeted floor; you knew that huff all too well. Whenever he was unable to get past a certain part in the game, it irritated him greatly.
“I’ll be fine, (Name). I simply wish I could beat this game. I’ve played over seventy-five hours of it, and I still cannot manage to beat it.”
You cocked your head slightly to the right; Kakyoin always managed to beat a game, often in record time. He had a knack for getting the hang of things after a small amount of time; something you envied.
“Well, what game is it?”
“It’s a game called Nuclear Throne. The objective is to get through seven areas, each area having three parts to it with unique enemies residing within each section. Once you manage to get through those areas, you beat the final boss, the Throne. However, each character you can play as has different abilities that help them as they go along. I just cannot seem to beat it, no matter how hard I try.”
His explanation baffled you slightly; you weren’t the best when it came to games.
“Well, perhaps those seventy-five hours are getting to you. Maybe you should take a break, Kakyoin. Come back and try again later.”
He gave a reluctant sigh, but laid back so he was sprawled out along the floor.
“I suppose you’re right, (Name)…”
Your lips curled upwards into a smile, and your forefinger played gently with the curly tuft of hair that hung over his face.
“C’mon. Let’s go to Starbucks. I know you like your Cinnamon Dolce Latte.”
He looked over at you, his eyes seeming to brighten at your words. If he had one weak spot, it was Starbucks and the drinks they served within. He rose to his feet, his slightly calloused hands grabbing your own and pulling you up with him.
“I would be more than happy to go there with you, (Name). It’ll be on me though since I’m the one acting like a child.”
You gave a quiet laugh; you knew he was acting sophisticated on the outside, but on the inside he was delighted to go. You felt him attempt to move his hands away from yours, but you retaliated by holding them tighter. You saw a slight redness grace his cheeks, and he glanced away.
“If we go to Starbucks, you’re holding my hand while we walk there, got it?”
“I-I have no objections to that…”
You could feel the heat on your cheeks; you knew they were probably red as a cherry right now. You had been wanting to know if Kakyoin felt the same way about you as you did about him, and now you had your answer.

“I’d like a venti Vanilla Bean Frappe, and another venti Cinnamon Dolce Latte, please.”
You watched as the cashier put in the order, and you saw Kakyoin go find the two of you a table.
“Do me a favor and put and extra cherry on the Latte, please.”
You saw the cashier nod and add it in on the register, and you pulled your wallet out of your purse. You knew how much Kakyoin liked his cherries, and quite frankly, what he did with them intrigued you. After paying for the drinks, you waited for a few minutes before bringing them to the table Kakyoin has secured for the both of you.
After seeing the extra, bright red cherry that had been placed on the cream of his drink, Kakyoin smiled brightly.
“You know just what I like, don’t you, (Name)?”
“Of course I do; you’ve only been my roommate for what, three years now?”
You heard him chuckle as he plucked the cherry from its perch by the stem. Your eyes followed it until it was placed on his tongue, and thus began his regular ‘cherry-licking tradition’ as you liked to call it. As you watched the cherry bounce and roll along his pink tongue, you couldn’t help but find yourself blushing. Why did he do that? Was he attempting to show off some kind of skill he possessed?
You cupped your hands around your cold drink, and took a sip of it through the green straw that poked through the cream. You saw Kakyoin finally eat the cherry, and then take a drink of his Latte.
“See, this is the thing I enjoy most in life, (Name). I may play games to pass the time, but the small things in life make me much happier than gaming does. Especially if I get to spend those small moments with you, my dear.”
You blushed at the name that had just left his lips. My dear? That was the first time he had ever called you something like that before. You took another tiny sip from your straw, and heard him chuckle.
“(Name), you’re as red as that cherry I just ate.”
Those words triggered a switch in your brain, and you felt your cheeks explode in a fit of color. It wasn’t like you to think such lewd thoughts, especially of sentences intended to be innocent; but with Kakyoin, you simply couldn’t help yourself.
He covered his mouth so he could stifle his laughter, but you felt a hand cup your cheek shortly afterwards. You blinked and looked at the redhead, and saw his expression had turned soft and caring.
“(Name)… do I have your consent to kiss you?”
Your eyes widened slightly at his question, but you gave a slow nod of your head.
“Y-yes… you do.”
The both of you hesitated slightly, but soon felt your lips press against one another’s. It sent a shiver down your spine, and your hand moved up to gently cup his right cheek. Oddly enough, his lips tasted of cherry; something that you came to like as the kiss carried on. Once the two of you moved away, your lips curled into a smile.
“I guess this means it’s official now, hmm?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I did it!”
You jumped at the sudden outburst from your roommate, and poked your head out of the kitchen to see him with his arms above his head.
“I finally did it! I beat the Throne! Seventy-five hours, and I did it!”
You giggled and walked out into the living room, plopping down onto the carpet beside him.
“Good job.”
You leaned over and placed a quick peck upon his lips, and he felt his cheeks go red.
“Now who’s red as a cherry, hmm?”
You grinned playfully and rose to your feet, walking back towards the kitchen.
“H-hey! Only I’m allowed to use that line!”
You felt your back be pressed against the counter as Kakyoin moved himself in front of you. He was rather quick when he wanted to be. You stared up at him, and his hands came to rest upon your waist.
“I bet I can go longer without blushing than you can…”
You saw the mischievous look in his eyes, and you returned it with one of your own.
“Oh? You know how much I like a good bet.”
No sooner had those words left your lips did you feel Kakyoin’s own press against them. You gave a soft whine at the feeling, your hands tangling into his red hair.
And, let’s just say that you ended up winning the bet later that evening.
