there is romance in treasure planet though, think about it the romance comes from the adventure itself not to mention (the dare i say forced) dobler and amelia had a romance as well
but the romance was between you and the movie it taught you that you had that greatness it was you who can sail the seas of any ocean or any nebula because you are awesome
that and i have my own scientific theorys as to how the whole movie could be plausable for a future true story

But you're right, it's so well written and thought out, plus it all ties together so nicely! And even though you know from the beginning that Silver is the anti-villian, the story still finds ways to surprise you!

ahem prepared for a long explanation with loads of typos and grammar faults.
Outer space that treasure planet is based in is way way way way in the future and as well all know outer space is just that an environment and if we know beings of earth adapt to many environments and since space is just that another environment the possibilities of adaption are endless, at one point all life on earth was under water and land was as outer space is to humanity now...
Now lets take the many breeds of creature treasure planet.
They all exist, not on earth and not on any recorded ufo sightings but by using on simple logic anything and everything exists on a planet somewhere out there, because as all logic states that the universe is full of more beings and possibilities than any human can imagine, and that being said anything that humans have imagined (like the creatures of treasure planet) must have already existed!
Now onto the open sail ships that treasure planet also shows... old fasioned ships from old times and knowing how humanity loves to try and bring the old into the new that means of transportation is not so out of the question, and why have open ships wouldnt space just destroy the owners of each vessel with lack of air and radiation? No because as i said this takes place far away in the future when all other beings of the universe have manages to make a language to go by and the coming racism was dealt with that would also mean (as previously stated) that humans must have adapted to the different environments of these planets and space itself that would make sense that Jim would be able to surf through space in his pants and t shirt with no other sort of protection, also there is one last thing that must be looked at....
Jim himself is not of earth he was born on a planet called Montressor and even back then he was well aware of all the other beings of other planets.
all that i have said here is that every creature exists and adaption would eventually allow humans in their own nudity and natural birthings to traverse space without any form of protection and only the need for transportation. And we all know... that old sea ships are much more attractive that space shuttles of today... so... why not traverse space in that way if that is indeed the environment you are adapted to.
