Description For the contest at Doll-Makers-Domain . The theme this month is birthstones, and being born in October, my birthstone is opal. Quite possibly one of THE most difficult gems to represent, since opals come in a wide variety of color combinations and varieties. So, for a bit of help, I took some inspiration from the Opal in Steven Universe. That at least pointed me in a good direction, color-wise. Plus, whenever I personally think of an opal stone, I think of one with a lot of blues, so I tried to represent that in my gem-lady.

Oh... my... Goodness! I love her! The hair, the colors, everything.     She looks fantastic. I love the rainbow effect in her hair.  I think you did a wonderful job representing opals here.

She's lovely! And you got very creative with how you found various ways to represent opals. And you're right, it's VERY difficult to do! Right up there with Moonstone and Alexandrite (they also shift colors a lot.)

At least with shifting color gemstones I can figure out how to balance the colors. I did some for the November Different-art contest. But multicolored ones are a lot harder, especially opals which can literally have every color you can think of in some varieties.

Yes, it does! *L* And yeah, I did 3 ones for that contest too. (Fluorite, Tigers' Eye, and Celestite.) A looong time ago, before the Snow Queen maker had come out, I did a collection of birth-stone dolls with the Heroine Fan-Art Creator, and that got interesting at times. And for another contest, someone had asked people to do something involving a birthday party, so I did a piece on Snow Queen with representatives for all the months and their birthstones. (So, for instance, for ones like June and October where there's more than one option, I tried to represent both options on the same doll.) It got ALL kinds of fun. But again, I like how you did Opal here. You got a lot of colors in without it looking like Van Gogh sneezed on the picture. *LOL* It all flows nicely.

That was something I wanted to keep in check. Opals can be rainbow and multicolored, but some can be a technocolor nightmare. So I wanted to try and keep the rainbow aspects to her hair while using more 'solid' colors for everything else. But really I think her best feature is the blue skin.
