Welcome, and its what you'd call you'd call one of the few paint colors out there. That would be a overo because its not based on the legs....(*thunderjam1992 has offically turned me into a genetic's nerd...so if you want a rant let me know...I'll rant XD) But its not what you'd call just a grey and white you were right on the grey bit but the white on the horse is called an overo pattern..in other words its a paint horse

Lol I'm always here to help with horse colors. (I can tell you the genetics to them if you wanna know that as well XDDD) And yes normally, if its a white marking it is a paint. So if you had like...hmm lets say a black horse with white spots on the body (or of on the legs that they are below the knee) then they are a paint horse. You'd put this one as a Grey Overo (and if you want you'd put whatever color the horse was before it turned grey...like if when it was a baby if it was black or whatever) you'd put Grey Overo (black base) its always important for people to know that kind of stuff when they breed with your horses.

No, how grey works is a horse is born another color (most common is black) and over time the hairs on the horses body start to grey (hence the grey coloring they get) So the base would be the color the horse was when it was born, since no horse can be born grey. Though they can grey out right after birth. So the base has to be any color except grey.

I'd say go with Black, its the most basic, and most common.
