Following 'A Gift From Heavens '

Eter's baby boy grew, loud and curious little creature. His slim legs built muscle from all his running around, and he was beginning to show physical resemblance to his father.

It took three weeks for him to notice that a regular foal has both and a mom and a dad, and that he lacked the paternity figure there. His mother provided him with everything he needed, so there was no real need for a dad at this point, but being the curious little bean he was, he started asking questions.

„You'll meet him someday, when you are ready,“ she'd always reply, „You need to grow big and strong, for your father is a great warrior and you'll be just like him.“

This last part hurt Eter, as she still had no idea what Katar will do when he sees her baby. Their baby. She feared if Katar rejects him, her son will be a constant reminder of him.

„Auntie!“ Cinnabar squealed and ran to greet the chocolat smoky noir mare.

„Hello there!“ Niobe smiled and squeezed the foal, „You are getting bigger every day! What will happen if you outgrow your momma?“

„Then I'll be the one feeding her, like she's feeding me now!“

Eter spat out the grass she was nomming on, „That's not how it works, dear!“ She chuckled embarrasedely, and approached Niobe.

„What brings you here?“ she asked her, gesturing to Cinnabar to leave them alone so he ran off to play with the other foals.

„Katar's at the border. He's been asking for you for weeks now,“ Niobe said, with worry in her voice.

„I wonder why..“ Eter sighed. She knew he would ask for her, as the news of her giving birth spread fast. All the 'half-blood' foals were infamous here, so this was no surprise. There were still superstitions about Batailles and their wild nature, even tho some of them are literally perfectly integrated into Classique communities.

She turned her head towards Cinna, who was playing in the snow. He was so happy, constantly, and she tried to be too. But the thought of Katar always made her mood shift.

„You cannot hide him forever, Eter. Katar deserves to see his son,“ Niobe tried to reason with her. This depressive mood of her was getting out of hand, „He's been camping at the border since the day he found out about him.“

„I guess you are right,“ he let out a loud sigh and decided it was time.

„Cinna, come here,“ she gently called him over. Cinnabar trotted over happily and stood in front of her with wide eyes.

„You think you are ready?“ she asked him, and he knew exactly what she was talking about.

He nodded profusely and a large teethy grin spread across his face.

„Want me to come with you?“ Niobe offered, but Eter kindly refused.

„We need to do this alone,“ she smiled to Niobe and started heading towards the border, her son jumping around her out of excitement.

„Come out only when I call you, alright?“

Cinnabar had no other option but to nod in agreement, because he knew she will be mad if he didn't listen to her. She hid him in the bush near the border and walked out into the open field.

Katar soon noticed her and trotted over, „Where have you been? Is everything alright?“ They touched muzzles and hugged.

„I…I'm sorry I kept you waiting like this, I just…“ Eter didn't know what to say. Her eyes were filling with tears, and she didn't want to be weak. Not now, not in front of her son.

She figured it was best if she just showed him, and they'll talk later.

„You can come out now,“ she called for her son, who came out of the bush wide-eyed. His gaze was fixed on the huge stallion in front of him.

„Is that… my son?“ Katar was taken aback, „He is-„

„A Classique,“ Eter cut him off and looked him straight into the eyes. He wasn't looking at her, he was as much fixed on Cinnabar, as Cinnabar was on him.

„Beautiful,“ Katar finished his sentence and walked over to the tiny foal, who took a step back out of fear. This was arguably the biggest horse Cinna had seen so far.

„No need to fear me, little one,“ Katar's voice was gentle and he lowered his head to Cinnabar's level.

„His name is Cinnabar,“ Eter stated, her eyes filling with tears again, but this time it was happy tears. Her baby boy finally met his father, and Katar seemed to have accepted him.

„Momma told me you are a big warrior,“ Cinna stuttered, examining Katar's gauntlet and scars. He sniffed his muzzle and touched the bronze ring the stallion had in his nose.

Katar chuckled, „She told you the truth. And you will be too when you grow up. Maybe even better.“

„Can I get one of those too?“ he pointed at the bronze gauntlet on the stallion's leg.

Eter chuckled, a single tear trailing down her face, „Of course, I'll make you one.“

Katar raised his big head and walked over to Eter, „Do you really think so ill of me, that I would reject our son?“ He wasn't mad, but worried. That wasn't the impression he wanted to leave on her.

She chuckled, and pressed her tear stained cheek on against his, „It was stupid of me, I am so sorry.“

„I can promise you, I'll never leave you or our son,“ he cuddled her, "I am not like that."
