Shayla is a very kind and caring pichu, who does her best to keep the group in mind at all times. She is optimistic, and always keeps a thoughtful smile on her face, and is very well mannered. Her good manners can make her seem a bit shy and docile, even if that isn't always the case. She is also very intelligent, and has a very observant eye. If she watches actions carefully, she can quickly get the hang of how things work, and that includes people, which makes her very perceptive of other people's emotions. With this, she can analyze people, actions, and objects with a lot of detail. However, this can lead her to over think things and make things more complicated than they really are, causing her to stress out a bit, but she can handle stress fairly well. She is very curious, and if she finds out something new, she immediately begins research. She is very dedicated to research, and is known to stay up late to do so, despite understanding that she needs sleep.
Even with her soft exterior, she does hide a very aggressive side. It can be easily brought out if she is personally attacked or pestered about her past, and if touching the hat she keeps as a memoir. She can be quick to snap, and during that time she can come across as very stubborn and bad tempered, something that isn't often shown on a normal basis. However, she is naturally rather impulsive, making it easier for her to snap if she doesn't think straight. Once the heat is over, she will likely be ready to apologize, and shamefully return to hiding it. That impulsiveness is likely due to her ideals of seizing every moment she can, which can make her come off as clingy to those closest to her. She does her best to play it smart, although her rashness can get in the way of that.
She is very determined, and hates leaving anything unfinished. She also hates the feeling of being useless, so will help in whatever way she can. Shayla is also known to be a pacifist, but if she must fight, it is until the bitter end. Until then, she will, at most, challenge you to a video game or a game that doesn't involve violence, in order to solve the fight.
In general, Shayla prefers to use her mind and logic, and is pretty mentally stable. She focuses on the truth, but is reluctant to do so if it risks hurting someone else. Emotionally, she isn't very strong, and they are known to take control of her, resulting in a few episodes of uncontrolled emotions. Although many a times, her mind and her heart fight each other, with mind more often than not, winning.

After the time skip, Shayla became far more confident in herself and her abilities. Her temper has also cooled as she matured, though sparks may still fly if anything important is tampered with. Fortunately, the hat is not one of those items anymore. She's learnt to embrace her past, and if anything, looks forward to the future now. If problems arise, she will roll with them. She's still a logic based pikachu that seizes the moment, while being polite and respectable
