Zoo Dvůr Králové: Siberian Tiger (Panthera tigirs altaica); tygr ussurijskýThank you very much for selecting this as a DD! It is quite funny, though; Pictures from my main gallery at *akelataka rarely get selected, while this Stock gallery has already two DDs chosen, even though they are just low-quality zoo shots. This one is even badly uploaded, see the green line at the bottom? :-D Definitely NOT deserving a DD X-D

You say low quality - but I see the kitten floof juxtaposed with the rough stone and combined with the strong lighting (not to mention the adorable subject and the pose). The mixture of all of those qualities really makes this a wonderful photograph.

Beautiful shot, I love the lighting in this photo! <3 About the DD, keep in mind that some categories have lower competition and are easier to get recognition in, like the stock and resources category. Not that I'm trying to say this image doesn't deserve the DD - it totally does! So congrats and keep up the good work!

IN REGARDS TO THE DAILY DEVIATION:
Tigers, and especially tiger cubs, are just essentially big, fluffy cats. People on the internet LOVE cats with a capital L. The overall "cuteness" in this is enough to give some users a sugar-rush. DD's are not about what's the absolute "best" work, but whatever is eye-catching or transgressive enough to get attention, let alone some of the writing that pops up on the bottom of the page is rather interesting to read...
Likewise, DD's are not just "given" to people who draw naked people, take shots of naked people, draw angsty pictures, angry gnomes, fan art, or anything involving those little technicolor equines (although on the issue of stock photos, I have seen some lovely horse shots), contrary to popular belief. A DD is what it is; you don't get any special rewards, and sometimes you don't even get any more notice than you did before.

You forgot Gothic romance photomanips featuring a woman in a black dress in a forest! LOL I see that trend A LOT too.
I completely agree with you. A lot of people seem to forget that a DD is nothing more than a 24 hour feature, it is not an award. It saddens me that people get so vocal when they personally disagree with a DD as it takes away from the joy of the recipient.
