Description Here is a little tutorial on creating radiant skydomes for MMD with Raycast Shader using the CMFT_X64_High_RGBT.exe program that comes with Raycast Shader in the Tools folder.

Here is the radiant skydome that I created for this tutorial:

Question! What effect goes where? I'm comparing the last step's effects with Time of Day/ Time of Night, etc, and they're not "matching up". what effects goes in fog map, what goes in envlightmap (most likely the sky with lighting.fx like you highlighted) and what goes in main, etc?

Asking because I think I chose the wrong effects. Some of my models' clothing went almost completely transparent so you can see their genitals

It's horrifying!

Time of Day and Time of Night are special skydomes, so it is important to read the Readme file in the same folder.  That should explain where to apply which effects.

Ohh... so Time of Day/Night has fog map stuff, but most other radiant sky domes don't?

Thanks! This cleared it up. I thought all the skydomes used in raycast needs to have .fx in main tab, fog map, envlight, and materials.

So for non Time of day/night sky domes, all I need is the .fx into main, envlightmap, and material right?

If you are using a radiant skydome, then the Main and Material tabs usually fill in automatically.  You can replace the fx file in the Main tab with one of the alternates (use sky with box with rotation.fx if you want to rotate the skydome), but that is optional.  The only tab that ALWAYS needs to be checked is the EnvLightMap tab.  By default, that is set to skylighting_none.  If you want the skydome / skybox to generate light, then you must change this to one of the Sky with Lighting fx files.  Note: if you change the Main fx file to Sky box with Rotation, then you should also use Skylighting with Rotation in the EnvLightMap tab.  The Material tab should already be set to Material_Skybox.fx.  If it is not then fix it.  You can find that one in the Material folder.

For some odd reason, Time of Day and Time of Night do not automatically choose the FX files (other than the main one).  For those two you need to manually change the FX files as shown in the Readme file.  Even the MaterialMap tab needs to be set to Material_Skybox.fx in the Material folder.  In the FogMap tab I usually use Time of fog with godray with cloud caster.fx, but some computers may not be able to handle this.  It looks cool, but it is more demanding on your system.

Oh thank you XD

Shoots self in head lol I only have experience using Time of Day and Time of Night so I thought all other skydomes were demanding like that too.

So the godray with cloudcaster.fx could be used with other skydomes too? Just place in FogMap?

I believe that godray with cloudcaster.fx is specific to the Time of Day skydome.

Thank you!!

I wonder, if a skydome/box has to have a .hdr image in order for the CMFT program to be used, that IES2HDR program must be used to generate those .hdr images in the first place. But from what? I'll have to try later if there's not already an answer online.

I tried using a jpeg image once.  It worked, but the colors looked a little funky.  I have not tried the IES2HDR  program, but you can convert pretty much any image format into a .hdr image with Adobe Photoshop.

Does it work for you that you can spin the skydome? Like... turn it around so you have the desired position in the background?

Change the skybox's main's fx with "sky with box with rotation.fx" so you can rotate it with EnvRotateY slider.

That used to work in the older version of Raycast, but it does not seem to work in the latest version.
