Description Speed-paint video: youtu.be/XBvGyctCOjo

Doesn't hurt to be a little majestic.

Back in June, I had a dream where Anne, Marcy and Sasha from Amphibia were a dynamic figure-skating team. It seemed to be a combination of two things: my love for Amphibia, and my interest in figure-skating. Why figure-skating? It's mainly because when I watch skaters skating on the ice, I see this underlying beauty behind it. There's just something so beautiful about watching people glide across a surface of ice with such grace, that you feel hypnotized watching it. Because the image of the three girls being figure-skaters was such a treat to see in my dreams, I knew I had to immortalize it into a picture.

Now onto the artwork!

As you can tell from the speed-paint video, this is the first time the entire process of me drawing a picture is shown. In my previous three speed-paints, the rough sketch would appear first, where the first thing I do is giving the outlines. The reason why I never recorded myself making the rough sketches was because those pics were made on a time crunch. Whenever I make a picture, I want to try and imagine what I want it to look like, and that can make me some time. If I started recording and just did nothing for five minutes (because I'm postulating what the picture would look like), it would come off as me stalling.

While drawing most of this picture was routine as usual, I must say that the most interesting thing I did when making it was regarding the girls' reflections on the ice. Because the ice is below them, I thought the simple plan was to just mirror the girls' legs onto the ice, but when I did that, the placement of their skates didn't align. I managed to fix that issue by warping the copies of the legs I made so that they align with their skates, thus making the reflections feel more real. Also, to emulate the fact that this idea of mine came from a dream, I drew a faint white border around the drawing. I was going back and forth if I wanted to keep it in or remove it, since I honestly like both results, but when I remember that this concept came from a dream, I knew the border had to stay. I also thought it made the drawing look more majestic.

As for the girls' dresses, they come from the video game Wii Party U. There's a mini game called Ice Spinners, where you're a figure skater trying to make the most spins within a time limit. When the time limit is up, you're only given a few seconds to strike a pose, or else you'll either completely stop or fall over. You get bonus points for how much you face the camera (20 for the front, 10 for the side, and 1 for the back).

Hope you enjoyed this piece. Hope I have another dream that's good enough to draw.
