Really? To tell you the truth I've never heard of the first one, and I never was interested in initial d b/c of the cars... >.>
Yes, actually. It's true that I'm a wannabe in that department only b/c I can't animate as well as I hoped. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot of teachers who knew a lot about animating in the schools I went to, hopefully there's one out there who could teach me...

Well anatomy-wise this is not bad at all, however I agree with eiyuu down there, the nose does seem a little flat, more curve is deffinetly needed. but also the right eye seems lopsided to the left, in other words if you were looking at her from directly infront her face would be slanted; not only that but the left eye is a little too far to the right of the image(left of the face... wow this is so complicated XD XD) remember the distance between the eyes should be enough to fit another eye, so at an angle like this there should be slightly less space available.
Flipping the image whilst working on it is a very good technique to get a good feel for what your image looks like whilst making it, flipping, zooming out that sort of thing. Get a feel for every little part of the picture.
Nice work otherwise, hope to see more soon.

Gah, thanks so much. Yeah, I was wondering about her right eye and nose. I plan on doing parts of the body one at a time, that way I can practice and get those parts down. Thanks so much for the critique. I really appreciate it! I'm gonna start back up now!

Yeah, I notice these things AFTER I submit them. I was having trouble with the eye, I tried to find references for the face, but it was hard to come by, next time I'll probably use myself as ref though.
I'll do better next time, I think lighting is my enemy as well. I'll submit the next pic in scraps, that way I can just fix it and upload it to my main gallery afterwords.

One thing I do when sketching is flipping the sketch, to see if it looks right on different angles. You can flip it on PS on image>rotate canvas>flip canvas horizontal.
Here's a lighting tutorial that could help you out.
