                                                   Guardian Angel

You were quite comfortable in your bed that you shared with your husband Gilbert Beilschmidt. Your face
buried in his toned chest. And his annoying snore that you had gotten used to over time was the only thing
breaking the silence.

"*snore* Kesesesese~ *snore* Kesesesesese~"

You sighed as you suddenly felt a tug at the sleeve of your nightgown. You rolled over to face your 5 year
old brother in law, Ludwig.

"Schwester, I need some help. I wet my bed..." He seemed ashamed of himself. You skillfully moved out of
Gilbert's grasp, being careful not to wake your sleeping lover.

"Oh it's okay, come on." You followed him back to his room. "How about you get out of those sticky pajamas while
I change your bed sheets. Wait for me in the bathroom and I'll gove you a quick bath so you don't stink" He
nodded and walked out of the room. You quickly stripped the bed of its sheets and placed new ones on. This wasn't
like Ludwig, he had never done this before.

After you had changed his sheets you walked to the bathroom where little Ludwig stood stark naked and shivering.
You turned the bath on, making sure the water was the right temperature. You helped him into the tub and as you
helped him wash, you had to ask him.

"Ludwig, why do you think you wet your bed?" He lowered his head.

"Because I had a dream...about Vati," You were immediately sorry that you asked. "I saw him going off to battle,
and I watched him...die." Tears streamed down the young German's face. "Then I woke up and I had wet the bed.
Things were silent for a few minutes until a sleepy and confused Gilbert appeared at the doorway of the bathroom.

"(name)? What the heck is going on? It's 3:30 in the morning." He rubbed his eyes. You got up from beside the tub and
led him into the hallway where Ludwig wouldn't hear you.

"Ludwig wet the bed, he said he had a dream about your father." Gilbert's crimson eyes softened at the mention of
his vater. "He watched him die Gil, I'm kinda worried. I think I should sleep with him for a few nights. Just until
he feels comfortable on his own." Gilbert nodded and looked as if he was about to cry but restrained himself.
You hugged him and placed a gentle kiss on his cheek and sent him back to bed. Assuring him that you had everything
under control.

When you returned to the bathroom, Ludwig had stepped out of the tub and was wrapped in a fluffy white towel. You
drained the water and led him back to his room where you helped him redress in clean pajamas and you went to bed.
You wrapped your arms around your little bruder.

~The Next Day~

Around the middle of the day, you had finished all of your chores and were now walking into the living room to
find Gilbert going through what looked like a small chest of some sort.

"Hey honey, whatcha doin?" You asked as you sat down next to him on the couch.

"I found some of Dad's old things and I was just looking through them. I actually found a letter that I wanted
to read to Ludwig." He called the small boy who emerged from his room. He sat on your lap and waited for Gilbert.
"I found a letter that Vati wrote to us. Would you like to hear it?" Ludwig nodded.

"Dear Meine Kinder,
                    I am about to go into battle and I have a feeling I will not be returning. I am trusting Gilbert
with my belongings and also Ludwig. Please take care of him. I would also like for you to know that I will always
be with you. Even though you cannot see me, I am watching over you forever. I hope you will both become
strong nations in the future and I give you my blessing.

Ludwig just stared at the floor. Then he spoke.

"Schwester, I don't need you to sleep with me anymore."

"Why is that Luddy?" you asked.

"Because Vati is watching over me. I don't have to be scared."

Gilbert had tears rolling down his face. He took the boy from your lap and set him in his own.

"That's right buddy, Vati will always be there for you. He's your guardian angel." He kissed the top of his blonde
head. That night, Ludwig slept peacefully knowing that he is safe in the care of his father. His guardian angel.
