Description This image depicts a basal cousin of the Pterodactyls, this species is known as the Flesh-Tailed Brachiopterus (Brachiopterus Sarcocaudus). These arboreal predators can run along larger branches and leap and glide between trees to pursue smaller animals, such as the Melon Hexamander (Hexasaurus Melopepus) we see climbing up a tree. Brachiopterids, due to their basal nature, are forced to stay in their tree gliding niche, a niche that has no better predator, so in this niche the Brachiopterids are seen as the top dogs. There are only 3 species of Brachiopterids, the Flesh-Tailed Brachiopterus sits at 1 meter long, putting them as the largest members and lives in temperate and tropical rainforests. The Shaggy Brachiopterus (Brachiopterus Hirtusai) is found in Taiga environments and is around 78 centimeters long. Pygmy Brachiopterus (Brachiopterus Pygmaeus) are the smallest species, only reaching 20 centimeters in length, they are mostly found in temperate forests and feed on insects, mostly ants.
