Fossambulus: Deep Traveler

Size: 50 cm to 1.5 m
Habitat: Deep Ocean, Trenches
Diet: Detritovore/ Scavenger

These Osteocrusids live much like Giant Isopods from Earth, crawling along the seafloor and eating falling organic snow and fallen carcasses. When a large enough carcass falls to the seafloor, they follow the scent particles thanks to their scent sensitive setae. Due to their habitat they are almost entirely blind, relying on smell to navigate their dark homes. Their meat is poor so most animals do not bother hunting them. When they find a carcass they will eat until they can no longer move or until the carcass is bare.
