These Stridormaxillids quickly became larger than their ancestors. and even better at grinding down their food. They quickly outcompeted most of their ancestors, with only the smallest Stridormaxillids surviving to the end of the Late Allocene. The largest members of this clade are fully herbivorous and restricted to the desert, where they migrate from oasis to oasis. It is because of these larger species that the clade gets the name. All species in this clade, due to evolving in the desert, have a short, flat ridge that creates a sail like structure, however in species that live outside of the desert, it is very reduced, looking like little more than a small, wide hump.
