Description October 8th 2012

A week ago, my Dad's friend came across an injured Red Tailed Hawk in our home town. I have always been the go to person when it comes to anyone I know coming across anything wild. We named him Lucky and took him home for the night where he was kept safe in a warm, dark and quiet place in our shed and the next day we took him an hour away to a wildlife rehabilitation centre where he was taken care and recovered.

Click Here to see the picture of the night I rescued him before taking him to the rehabilitation centre

A week after we dropped him off at the centre, he was deemed releasable. His head had healed nicely, new downy feathers were beginning to regrow from where he had hit his head against the cage. His wing didn't appear to be severely injured and he was test flown and shot off like a rocket. He also started eating on his own again, ate 4 mice yesterday and was in great condition to be released back into the wild. So we went to pick him up this morning to take him back near the area he was found.

*NOTE* I want to let anyone who sees this picture know that we didn't put him under any unneeded stress to get this picture. I took him out of the box to see the condition of his feathers before I let him go. We snapped a few pictures, said our goodbyes and we released him back into the wild where he belongs.

This is a beautiful story and reminds me of the our relations to nature, animals and birds in particular. They can be seen almost everywhere, the're very beautiful, (most), and if we are in tune with nature it self, they will bring us messages. There is a wonderful book that speaks of this called, " Animal Speaks" by the name of a fellow named Ted Andrews. He has since past a few years ago which was surprising to me but his works live on. Continue the good works toward nature. Thank you.

The look on his face is like, "You...you saved me...why?"
"Because it's the right thing to do."
"I don't...understand..."
"You don't need to. Be free!" -throws-

Wow. You should give him a name to call him by That's what I do; I name the hawks that live around me, and I named the birds I've raised--even if one of them died before I got home to care for her. I am very glad that this red-tail was ready to go, and I'm sure the release went well! I'm trying to become a falconer myself and I'm excited that the Harris hawk is available to apprentices in my state! I'm still a pre-apprentice, though ^^" I'm also hoping to use my knowledge of birds to become an Avian veterinarian. You have inspired me more to follow my passions!

My family and I named him Lucky
That is amazing that you want to become an avian veterinarian, there aren't enough out there!
I'm glad my story was able to inspire you, it's the greatest feeling to have to help inspire someone with the pictures of my adventures with wildlife
