It was a good haul. Two carbines, some ammunition, and an unconscious Sangheili.He sat down, his father's hammer at his side, and looked at what was either a compatriot or a meal. He hadn't eaten for a long, long time.
"You neither, hmm?" He said to an approaching duo of infection forms.

Haha! That's a great line of dialogue! I love the lighting in this one... very much so. Boy, I wish I could draw like this.
I always want to put in too much detail, and it comes out harsh and brutal. Then it looks drab and sometimes, blank, when I run it through my bitter, evil scanner. Perhaps I could take a tentative page out of your book...?
Not likely to work all that well for me, given my styling, but... who knows, it might help me to lighten my hard strokes a bit, eh?

right. my book basically says: "do not outline anything, let light and dark surface speak for themselves". this is not a horribly practical philosophy for lineart (for example).
and detail is beautiful. if that's your style then go for it. I am really bad at detail

Now there's something I haven't heard before. Though I guess given what I've learned from my own random scribblings, it does make a whole lot of sense. It also inhibits the problems arisen from crossing outlines - such as for a skull when you're trying to add hair.

well, i say that because teacher favoured a super-quick sketching/painting style. If you are not limited by time then of course a more detailed sketch using a light pencil (2H or below) would be best.

Well, sure, but I like to pick up variance and tips and things wherever I can. Self-taught doesn't necessarily mean I ignore other people's advice.

*happy spin and squel* As i said, i do like Sangheili. I prefer Jiralhanae, but I have always fancied that if the Sangheili and Jiralhanae were just slightly less of dicks, they would have conquered humanity without any trouble.
They're both such dicks though.
