Description
It was a normal summer's night at Camp Half blood. Most of the campers were fast asleep but among the few awake was Ariel, daughter of Aphrodite, who wore a plain red t-shirt, denim shorts, silver pumps and her camp necklace. She stood outside her dolls house of a cabin waiting impatiently for Kai, a boy who'd promised he'd meet her at 1:00 am, and he was five minutes late. Just as Ariel was about to give up and go to bed she saw a tall figure approaching from cabin 2. Kai. He was wearing a blue shirt and jeans, he looked great. Her heart suddenly started beating a bit faster and she walked over to greet him.
"What took you so long?" she asked punching him gently on the arm.
"I'm sorry, I was, umm, busy" he replied.
Ariel raised an eyebrow but said nothing.
"So what exactly did you want to do?" She enquired.
He looked around as if he was scared someone would hear them.
"Not here, there's a spot I want to show you" he said.
Silently she wondered why he couldn't show it to her during the day but refrained from asking. Kai would have his reasons and besides, she thought the night meeting was romantic. He grabbed her hand and began walking towards the woods.
After a few minutes they passed the campfire from earlier that evening, it was mainly dead apart from a few embers glowing a hazy scarlet and looking at them made her purple eyes water. She expected them to stop but Kai kept heading towards the forest.
"Isn't it dangerous to go into the woods at night?" she asked in a small voice.
"Trust me" he said and squeezed her hand.
Soon they reached the trees and they continued a little bit further before they arrived in a small clearing. It was full of hundreds of varieties of flowers, roses, jasmines, daisies, pansies, forget-me-nots and more Ariel couldn't name. The sweet fragrances of each plant mingled and mixed into one, sweet and fresh scent that she immediately fell in love with.
"It's beautiful" she whispered.
Kai nodded.
"But not as stunning as you" he replied softly.
Shocked, Ariel swivelled to look at him, expecting to see humour or amusement in his sky blue eyes, (a sure sign he was kidding) but instead she was met with an emotion she didn't recognise.
"When I first saw you, Ariel Keys, saw how beautiful and amazing you are, with those violet eyes and smooth chocolate hair I knew it. Knew I'd never see another girl's face again, knew my heart was yours and yours alone, we hardly talked but everything from the way you'd fold your pizza in half before eating it and how you couldn't go a day without smiling made me love you more. I couldn't stop thinking about you" he told her, then his eyes dropped to the floor and his cheeks turned cherry red, "suddenly every love song I heard was about you".
Ariel stood there for a small moment, gazing into his warm and sincere blue eyes, and then she smiled. As quickly as she could she scanned her empty head for something to say but words failed her, she was too stunned. Suddenly an idea struck, it was probably stupid and cheesy but at that moment she didn't care.
"You make me feel like I'm living the teenage dream, the way you turn me on, I can't breathe, let's run away and don't ever look back, don't ever look back" she sang in her most tuneful voice then, nervously, she waited for Kai's reaction.
To her surprise a huge and delighted grin had dominated the son of Poseidon's face and Ariel's spirits soared. Kai threw his arms around her and she returned the hug with the same joy.
"You have no idea how long I've been waiting for this moment" Ariel laughed.
"Yes I do" He replied in a serious tone.
Ariel felt another emotion, passion or desire, grow inside her and the next thing she knew she'd wriggled out of Kai's strong arms and was kissing him instead.
For the first time since she'd discovered she was a demi-god she was truly happy and knew that the only place she belonged was with Kai. She longed to live in this moment forever but sadly the fates disagreed. Too soon the golden sun began to rise and they broke apart.
"I'd better get you back" he sighed, sounding generally disappointed.
Ariel pulled a face but didn't disagree.
"Well Prince Charming, escort me back to my castle on your noble steed" She joked grabbing his hand.
"With pleasure your majesty" he laughed back and crouched down in front of her.
Ariel was confused.
"What are you doing?" she asked.
He grinned slyly.
"You were the one who ordered a ride" he said.
Ariel bit her lip uncertainly.
"If you drop me you're dead" she warned.
He just smirked and patted his back.
Nervously, she stepped forward and sat down. Kai then grabbed her legs and stood up.
"Oh and Kai" she said giggling suddenly "what is it with you and pizza?"
"Pizza is the second best thing in the world" he explained.
"What's the best thing?" she asked, curious.
"You" he replied and sprinted towards the cabins, Ariel screaming and laughing all the way.
