...designed to strugglePart of my 'Trigger' series, this one focused on Asthma.
Black mixture, home made:
PVA Black acrylic paint tea leaves porridge oats
Make up:
Baby oil, talc powder mixed with powder foundation, grey eyeshadow

Haha, it sucks. The expression on this is exquisite and perfect. The sort of yellow skin and sunken eyes...wow. It's a really perfect shot. Great job, really. You captured the struggle it can be to just breathe when asthma strikes, and I love the imagery of the black ooze.

Greatly appreciated! I'm so glad you like it. I've never had asthma so I had to really try fit in the shoes of an asthmatic - it was quite tricky.

This is so painful to look at- in a fantastic way. I think the part that is the most disquieting is the sheen on the forehead, and the rest of the skin- that sickly, pale pallor (was that the baby oil, making that slickness?)... you look... truly like you're dying, in some curse-bitten kind of way. Of course the river of black sludge doesn't help... but that isn't the most poignant part about this for me, oddly enough.

I really didn't want the gunk to be the focus point of the image, but it wouldn't have been as suited to do it in any other colour. I'm glad you picked up the sheen on my skin - I spent a while sorting that out and my hair is still covered in baby oil which doesn't seem to want to come out!
I guess most people view their illnesses as a curse, and a weakness, so in that sense I hope you're thinking that my work was successful =]

Well yeah, plus not only that.
Black could represent tar, and that would lead one
to talk about smoking. Which leaves you VERY breathe less.
