My mother, she killed me.

My father, he ate me.

My sister Marlene

Gathered up my bones,

Put them in a silken scarf,

Buried them under the juniper tree.

Keewit, keewit, what a fine bird am I.

this is defnitely one of the scariest grimm's fairy tales I ever read, and it's always been my favorite. Thank god we don't grow any juniper trees around here...

One of my favourite Grimm stories! My favourite parts were always when the boy/bird said his little song.

Such an interesting picture, also. I like the expressions and the flowers.

I love the way you drew this, it's so delicate (like, the boy's hair, and the transparent cloth) but it still is so scary.
You really are the right person to adapt fairy tales

to akurat było tym angielskim tłumaczeniu Fausta: [link]
pod koniec, jak Margaret śiewa w celi, to właśnie ten tekst jest :33
a że brzmi jeszcze bardziej fajowo niż 'my mother she killed me...' to się nim regularnie podniecam >D'

ja jestem za polskim tłumaczeniem:

'matula obcięła mi główkę
tatulo w potrawce mnie zjadł
a siostrzyczka Maryjka
zebrała kosteczki
w węzełek z chusteczki
i pod jałowcem złożyła'

Pernament? Ekstra, bo rewelacyjnie Ci to wychodzi!
Yummy.
A co tam słychać w ogóle?

oh- i am so sorry, i realized that both lines are from one version- for a moment i was confused with "the rose tree". i still want to read both versions though- i have a fetish for deliciously macabre stories. XD

AnnaWieszczyk In reply to airahnn [2009-11-08 10:55:56 +0000 UTC]

I don't know if I'm familiar with 'rose tree' can you tell me something more?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

airahnn In reply to AnnaWieszczyk [2009-11-08 15:11:47 +0000 UTC]

quite basically, its another variation of the Juniper Tree-

"My mother slew me, my father ate me"

The gender of the victim in this story is that of a girl- and the one who mourns the death of the victim is a boy- her brother.

In this story, the girl loses her head as well, but it was cut off by her evil stepmother as she pretended to comb the girl's hair.

other than that, everything is pretty much the same.
its a lovely story, no matter the version.

but i think that my favorite version remains still with the brothers grimm, absolutely chilling a story.

airahnn [2009-11-08 04:05:21 +0000 UTC]

Oh, i want to read this story right now-

both versions seem gorgeous- the "My father, he ate me," and "My mother, she killed me."

And this fits the mood so well- there is something ominously violent about the rich hues of red.

What fairytale is this specifically? And from what origin?

I'm curious and would like to read them.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

AnnaWieszczyk In reply to Pilott-Lightt [2009-11-08 10:53:52 +0000 UTC]

It's from brother Grimm and it's called as above 'juniper tree'
If you live in States I think you can find books like 'Grimm's Grimmest' with selection of most bizarre and gore stories.
