A recent commission that I completed. A beautiful golden retriever done on pale tan mat board with Prismacolor pencils and a little acrylic for the light feathering. size 11x14Related content

Beautiful, i´m beginning to use prismacolor, but the only ones i have here are watercolor. Do you use the regular prismacolor pencils? Do you have any sequence or video showing the steps you use to paint dogs?

Thanks for the nice comments. I appreciate it. I use the regular soft core Prismacolor pencils. I have several work in progress posts that I did on Wetcanvas art site. Here is a link to one of the dogs I did, a german shepherd on black paper and also a little cocker spaniel that I did. There are several others on cats if you look through my other threads on there.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it. I usually use white acrylic paint with a super fine brush to add whiskers as white pencil would not show up very well over the darker pencils.

Ahh, that makes sense. Because I have tried to buy white colored pencils and even white gel pen, but now that you mention it, acrylic paint makes more sense.

Yep, we love our dogs don't we. I haven't had the opportunity to do a flat coat yet. Maybe one day, they are beautiful dogs and I love doing black dogs.

Thanks. I appreciate the nice words. I use strictly Prismacolor colored pencils for all my work. I also use little touches of acrylic paint for the light feathering and highlights.
