I love how you can draw a man and make him masculine. Mine always turn out fem. I think it's becauseΒ when I started drawing I wanted to learn the heavy metal lady art and drew women all the time then anime influence came in a bit even though I tried hard to keep it out of my artworks. I think I've decided I love anime as a fan but not as a personal artist. It seems this style is a dime a dozen which is no insult to anyone by any means. (There are some fantastic artists out there under this discipline.) I'm deciding it's not for me I want my unique artistic voice. I've been doing research and I'm finding out anime comic style is essentially cheap easy Archie comics to the Japanese. The analogy is that there is some much and it's massivelyΒ accessible that it's become the 10cent comic strips.
But it doesn't stop me from watching or reading it. I'll enjoy it that way, I'm just looking for more realism in my own.

ahh thank you! i gotta tell you tho, it took a lot of work over the years to get my men to look masculine while still having features that are traditionally feminine i.e. long hair. mine also looked pretty girly for a long time. anime, particularly bishounen, was a huge influence in a bad way for me. it wasn't until i distanced myself from anime and started drawing heavily from photo references and real life that my men began to look like, well, men. xD so i will offer that same advice to you! use references all the time. it will only help. :]

Once you go merman, you never go human. Buwahahaha.
Anyway, that bit of immaturity over... I love the perspective, the pose, and the background. The water splashing against his legs looks awesome.

oh hell yeah! i have ADORED merpeople since i was a little girl, so of course i had to make my own fictional race of merpeople! antaeus here is the main character of my big story too. he's so much fun to draw--the hair especially.
and thank you so much!! this took so so much work, and i learned a ton. i might even go back and tweak the colors a little, add more contrast to make it pop. the stream of water coming up to his hand gets lost in his hair and the sky. BUT! it still looks good. so whatevs haha. i also love the water splashing against his legs--that was really fun to paint!

omg same. i was almost 5 years old when the little mermaid came out, and it's absolutely responsible for my love affair with merpeople! and i was also obsessed with the music lol

This one blows me away; the background looks absolutely amazing!! The way you handled painting the water is exquisite, especially when it makes contact with Antaeus. Plus, his fish-like scaled hand is such a nice touch. Really amazing works here!
I'm not sure how this only has a handful of likes, your work certainly is more deserving!

to be fair, i only just started becoming active again on here, i have very few watchers, and i rarely draw fanart. getting noticed is going to take some effort. xD but if i can reach just a few people, then it's okay.
thank you so much for commenting!! ;-; i spent so much time on this piece--the water alone took hours omg lol. plus antaeus is a very dear character of mine and very fun to draw/paint.
