Description
Erika adored her Mightyena. It was given to her when she was young, at the time he had been an adorable little Poochyena. He loved her as much as she loved him. Just four months ago, Poochyena decided to accompany Erika in her Pokemon journey. Over those months, he had grown from an affectionate house pet to a fierce, brave, and unquestionably loyal Mightyena. Erika knew that they would always be the best of friends.

That is, until today.

She was caught in a battle with just an ordinary Camper, taking down his first two pokemon easily with her strong Bayleef. Then the Camper sent out Ponyta. Knowing better then to have a grass pokemon go against a fire pokemon, Erika returned Bayleef and sent out her beloved Mightyena.

“Mightyena, use faint attack!” She cheered. Mightyena charged forward, a dark purple-pink ring forming around his forehead. The energy grew greater, Mightyena ran faster, and then in a flash, he vanished and the dark pulse of energy crashed into Ponyta. Erika’s pokemon appeared in front of her, and she praised him with a pat on the head.

“Ponyta, get up!” The other trainer screeched. The hurt pokemon staggered to its feet and the trainer commanded it to use ember. A trail of flames then shot from Ponyta’s mouth and moved swiftly towards Mightyena. Erika’s pokemon was quick; he jumped out of the way just as the attack scorched past him.

“Great, now use take down!” She told Mightyena. Mightyena shot forward, full speed, and threw all of his weight at Ponyta. Ponyta crumpled to the ground.

“Useless pokemon!” The trainer grumbled as he recalled Ponyta and handed Erika money.

“Good job Mightyena!” Erika cooed as she bent down and embraced her pokemon.

“Maaan…” the trainer sighed, “if I had a pokemon as powerful as your Mightyena, I’d be unstoppable! …I know! How about I get your phone number and then I’ll call you when my pokemon are strong like yours?”

“Uhh…sure?” Erika shrugged as she exchanged numbers with the trainer. Then she called out her Swellow and flew off on it. Not knowing the horrible plan the trainer had in his mind.

Much earlier than she could have ever imagined he would, the trainer called her. “Hey Erika! These past few hours I’ve been working harder than ever before, and I want to try and battle you again!” He hung up with a ‘click’. Erika shrugged and flew to the spot where she had battled with the trainer before. She expected the battle to go by as quickly as it had before, but it went much differently than that.

She first sent out her Mightyena, and the trainer sent out Raticate. “Raticate, use hyper fang and hold him down!” He shouted. Erika felt uneasy about the way he said ‘hold him down’. Raticate knocked Mightyena over and clung on to his arm with its huge fangs. Suddenly the trainer thrust a net over Mightyena, then, as he called back his Raticate, flung an ultra ball forward. Erika realized with horror that this low life trainer was stealing her pokemon from her. What was he, a Team Rocket grunt? She watched as the ultra ball bounced off of Mightyena’s head. Then, with a blinding flash of light, he was gone, trapped in the ultra ball.

“What’s your problem!?” Erika screamed, balling her hands into tight fists. The trainer simply smirked, picked up the ultra ball, and ran away.

So that was it. Erika’s best friend in the world was gone. Stolen. She had done nothing in an attempt to rescue it. She didn’t know what to do. She tried to take a step forward, but her legs crumpled from beneath her and she fell into a heap on the ground. Her head in her arms, she began to cry. She cried for a long time. It wasn’t until nightfall that she finally stood up and let all of her pokemon out of their poke balls.

Slowly she moved her gaze from her Bayleef, to her Swellow, to her Smeargle, to her Seadra, and then to the empty space where Mightyena should have been. In a low voice, she growled, “We’ll get him back. No matter what it takes, we’ll find that thief and make him pay.” Something inside Erika had changed. She no longer cared about the fate that may befall her. She was only determined to find her dearest friend.

Over the next five weeks, Erika trained her pokemon hard, and she struggled through countless landscapes, searching for that trainer. One day, when she was lost, hurt, and hungry, she was a about ready to give up hope until she heard a voice. Erika recognized that voice. It was the voice of that horrible trainer, a voice that she had planted in her mind and would never, ever forget. Just a few yards away, the trainer was battling with a wild Marowak. He was using Mightyena. He was using Erika’s Mightyena.

Mightyena looked fierce, not the kind of fierce he was before, now his eyes looked bloodthirsty, and unforgiving. His once graceful and sturdy fur was now matted and saggy, and several scratches covered his chest. What has that trainer done to him? Erika thought. Then, as Mightyena finished off the Marowak, the trainer started to walk away. Erika had to do something before it was too late. “Hey!” She called out angrily.

The trainer turned around, his eyes grew wide as he spotted Erika. “Give me back my pokemon!” She screamed as she glided forward.

The trainer smirked, “You’ll have to battle for him!” Erika charged and released Smeargle from his poke ball. The other trainer chose to use Mightyena. As soon as Mightyena turned and faced Erika’s Smeargle, the evil look in his eyes vanished. All of the devilish, bloodthirsty thoughts in his mind turned to old loyalty towards Erika.

“Mightyena! Destroy that Smeargle!” The trainer demanded. Mightyena turned to his so called ‘master’ and snarled viciously. Then, before Erika could even progress in her mind what was happening, Mightyena lunged at the trainer’s throat. Though this trainer stole her pokemon in order to settle his ambitions, Erika knew that no one deserved to be killed by any pokemon. So as quickly as she could she raced forward and dragged Mightyena off of the trainer.

Blood gushed from the wound on the trainer’s throat, and weakly he cried, “You lousy pokemon…you betrayed me…” Then he grabbed a poke ball from his belt and released the pokemon that was inside. In a flash of red light, a Nidorino appeared.

“Kill that dumb pokemon…” he growled. Nidorino lowered his poisonous horn and charged. Mightyena jumped out of the way just in time. Then he leapt forward and rammed his head into Nidorino’s side. Nidorino skid a few feet, but seemed scarcely injured at the least. With a grunt, he lunged at Mightyena again.

“Please, is this all necessary?” Erika cried. The trainer was still lying on the ground, commanding his Nidorino to attack. Mightyena then turned again to the trainer, and jumped on him. His razor like fangs tore and slashed the trainer’s throat and chest. In an effort to save his trainer, the Nidorino pointed his venomous horn again and headed right towards Mightyena’s chest.

“Stop it! Stop it!” Erika screamed. She then lunged forward and wrapped her arms around Mightyena. Tears streamed down her face as a stinging pain pierced her side. Mightyena turned from the trainer’s body, which was now dead, and watched as Erika’s arms loosened from around him.

Erika landed hard on the ground. She could feel the poison from Nidorino slowly coursing through her veins. Mightyena whined and sat close to her side. Tears began to well up in his big amber eyes. Erika’s vision started going blurry, and she felt Mightyena licking her side where the stab was. There was nothing she could do but gently wrap her arm around Mightyena’s neck and whisper, “Good boy…” as her life slowly faded away.

Erika’s arm fell away from Mightyena, her eyes remained wide open, staring forward into nothingness as tears continued to stream from them. Mightyena fiercely licked her face, hoping to wake her up. Soon he realized there was no hope. Slowly he stood, threw his head up to the sky, and howled away his pain.

As the last sound of his howls faded away into the distance, Mightyena curled up next to Erika’s body and slept.

200 years later, there is said to be a mountain side where no trainer dares to go. For a fierce beast lives there, a beast that protects the bony remains of a long lost friend from any intruders who may wish to do her more harm…

It howls at the moon and hunts prey in packs. It will never disobey the commands of anyone it deems to be its leader.

For 's contest.

After I read the description I thought, "What if it didn't think of someone as its leader?" and I also thought, "what if it was driven into thinking that nobody except for one single person was its leader?"

And then this happened. I really wanted to draw a picture but I really wanted to write a story. So I did both. PLEEEAAASE read it I spent forever on it. (the writing and the picture)

The picture was done completely on MS paint with mostly a mouse...ouch...
