I agree in many cases it is tasteful, but the motion blur in this shot makes it look out of focus and the clouds are what your eye is drawn to first, perhaps a different cropping would serve the shot better.

Like the contrast, its nice. The setting of the picture is really nice too, good use of tones as well. Wider angle? Well i wouldnt know if its better until i see it.

The HRD really blurried the clouds though... other wise its really good

the HDR isn't responsible for blurring the clouds, but the time lapse is, i think all three shots were at ~1 second, and the clouds were screamin by due to the passing storm
