I think it's been shot. I've seen stills. But I've never seen the full movie so who knows how much they got done. Tommy Defendi is Jesus and the boy is played by Aaron Slate. I forget who plays the gladiator. I feel a little more free to talk about it now since it's been so long and I think it's safe to say the project was probably shelved.

I remember talking to my Egyptian friend about those fiction novels based on Bibilical stories (The Red Tent and the like). He was amazed how erotic some of the passages are in those novels. He said that could never happen in Egypt or the rest of the Arab world. They'd have a book burning. I told him not to recite "The Song of Solomon" outloud lol
I then told him that King David and Prince Johnathan most likely had a romantic/sexual relationship with one another that's referenced in the Bible (Β 1 Sam. 1,Β Β 1 Sam. 14, 1Β Sam. 18:1-4, 1Β Samuel 31:1-6,Β 2 Sam. 1:1-17) and that's played off as a deeply "platonic" relationship.
