It had been warm enough to melt off most of the snow from the previous week, and so the siblings had spent the day exploring some of the trails before they were buried again. Now that the sun was getting low, Fliz led her brothers along one such trail in the direction of their home. The three dragons eventually come to a spot in the trail surrounded by deciduous trees. Drex stopped walking and looked around with growing excitement at the mounds of dead leaves everywhere. "Hey guys! Wanna jump in these leaves?" Vliticus paused for a moment to take a good look at the clutter beneath his paws. He turned back toward Drex and ushered him forward. "I'd love to, but it's getting late." The red dragon's ears drooped slightly, but sprang back up in an instant. "What about you Sis?" Fliz glanced over her shoulder as she kept walking and puffed out a little cloud of frost. "Nope." "But look at this pile. It's big enough to hide in." Drex pleaded, gesturing to a particularly large mound in an open spot. His sister stopped and blew another cloud of frost before turning to face him. "Leave the leaves alone Drex. You don't know what's living in there." Disappointed, Drex looked questioningly at Vliticus who shrugged and trotted after their sister. The red dragon lowered his head in a defeated bow and began to walk back around the pile after them, but stood in place instead. Drex gave the large pile of dead leaves a sideways glance as a mischievous thought stirred in his mind. Slowly, he leaned down next to the pile and let a small flame lick at the leaves. Fliz and Vliticus had no idea what was about to happen. They both yelped in shock at the tremendous blast from behind. It sounded like someone had fired a canon somewhere very close by. Whirling around, they found the clearing had undergone a very quick and chaotic change. Their attention fell to the bits of leaves scattered around the now burning pile. Drex was laying on the ground at least a foot from where he had been. The explosion had apparently been strong enough to knock him over. Pieces of debris fell off his body as he shifted and stood with a grunt. Looking at the bonfire, Drex turned back to his siblings with a grin. "That was awesome!", he roared. Fliz huffed and made her way over to him. "You're an idiot." "But I just made a pile of leaves blow up!" She rolled her eyes and looked over at Vliticus who was making a leaf levitate. "Can you not kill us with your stupidity?" The smile on Drex's face grew wider. "The decomposing leaves underneath produce methane, and since it....What?" His ears drooped under her stern glare. "Ok." He shook the rest of the debris off his body and joined his brother up the trail without another word. Their sister twisted around him so that she could start putting out the fires he'd caused. One-at-a-time, the blue dragon smothered the smaller blazes with snow before tackling the remains of the pile. Once she was done, Fliz made her way back to her siblings with a little smile. "Now that we're done experimenting, lets get back home so Mommy and Daddy don't have to look for us. We don't need another forest fire to worry about."
