Black Grant was 18 when his father, the chief of police of Blackwater city, was murdered. His murder took a toll on his family, but Blake was affected in a different way: He decided to avenge his father and take down the crime lord that ordered his assassination, The Purple Demon.

Blake decided to become a vigilante to both fight the crime and corruption in Blackwater city, as well as give the people hope like his father did. And thus, Blackwing was born.
