i believe i got the first 4 books for my 10th birthday, back in 2000. i kept hearing about it from friends and classmates, and i guess my folks got it for me because it was so popular. neither i, nor my parents, really knew how much i'd end up liking the books until after i started reading them. i ended up pulling all-nighters by the night-light in the living room in our tiny basement apartment just to see what would happen next. my dad discouraged me from doing it because he said it was going to do even more damage to my eyesight than was already done genetically, but it really didnt stop me and, if anything, became more of a tradition for me. i got order of the phoenix on the night of its release, and stayed up until about 7 in the morning reading it. i did the same for deathly hallows, except i went to bed at 5 am rather than 7, primarily because i was visiting my grandparents in new york and wasnt sure if the light in my room would keep them awake. i tore through half-blood prince relentlessly, which i regret because it was a loaner from the library. i still have yet to buy myself a copy, though i intend to the next time i have enough pocket money. my dad bought me a harry potter shirt from before the first movie came out, and it still fits me, which tells me very clearly that i started growing way too early, but i digress. picking up the series definitely turned out for the better for me in the end, if for no other reason than the fact that, despite moving from place to place, and from school to school, my education never really seemed to suffer (apart from math), especially not in the english department. i picked up a lot of new words reading those books, and could usually discern their definition in class through their usage in the books.
wow, what a wall of text.

Lovely art! I especially love the eyes.
I can't exactly remember the time that I first started reading Harry Potter novels, but I do remember in middle school I was reading a copy of Prisoner or Azkaban so I must have read the others before that.

What a beautiful drawing! : D And I like your little story there.. c:
I became a Potterhead probably around the age of six-seven (I have this little cute scribbly handwritten text in my copy of Philosopher's Stone: "laura 7v", meaning Laura, aged seven, so that's my proof there), so maybe in 2002-2003. I started reading the books, and my mum took me to all the premiers, every year. She recently told me that my godmother, whose son was two years younger than me, didn't let him go and watch the movies in the start because it was "too scary" -I was already having the cinema lady put pillows on my seat so that I could see the screen!
Anyways, I've grown up with Harry Potter books and movies beside me, and always came back for them. The magical story has just been there with me, you know? It's like I have a special bond, that no one can break, with you wherever you are! It's been a real honour, being part of the Harry Potter generation, and continues to be an honor throughout my life!
Soo...that's that. Longy comment is longy. : D

Yay for lovely drawing! And being emotional!
Unfortunately, I didn't 'grow up' with Harry Potter, the way everyone did. I always loved the movies, and tried reading the Prisoner of Azkaban once the movie came out...but I couldn't understand it (I was young - third grade-, the 'British way of talking' in my brain hadn't connected yet...).
A year or so later, I tried reading the Goblet of Fire, still couldn't understand...gave up...read through all of Order of the Phoenix, but nothing connected....
Finally when HBP came out in the films, I decided to give the books another try (Everything was already 'spoiled' for me in the movies, so why not?)....and I found out why so many people were in love with Harry Potter! I immediately ran through the Deathly Hallows, then went back to the beginning and read back up.
So that's how I became a Potterhead!
