The movie and book may have been quite depressing
and creepy...the buttoned eye monsters 
but at least it conveys a very useful message:
Creating a world of dreams and trying to seek refuge in it wil lead you to nowhere and cause even more suffering.
You have to be sensible,believe in loved ones
and face your problems in real life with poise.

It had a very deep and serious side,
and was an intelligent read ,
just like A Game of Thrones.
Unlike Eragon or Lemony Snicket's
A Series of Unfortunate Events series,
which were lacking certain
vital aspects(Unfortunate Events)
or depth (Eragon).

The book is much more deep than the movie. For me, the movie was adapted for kids. Wybie and the doll thing are pretexts to give the impression that the Other mother trapped her more than Coraline did to herself.
