Stunning use of light and colour. Immediately the dazzling display of brightness and colour appears extremely engaging and very dynamic; the entire image appears to be bursting and dazzling with vibrancy.
The use of contrast to really sharpen up the brightness levels is also very remarkable, particularly seen around the character's head where the stunning form of the creature is highlighted and made very distinct.
The posture of the figure reinforces this effect strongly, its spread arms and open hands conveying quite the powerful stature.
The turbulence of the water completely explodes this sense to really create that spectacular impact; the steep waves and intricate particles of spray really create a powerful, engaging apparel to the audience.
With the surrounding darkness, it's as if the ocean has suddenly crashed into itself and the character has risen out, claiming its power in a rather awesome manner.
The use of light in this piece is perhaps one of the strongest elements that make the image so brilliant; the countless highlights on the waves and figure are all so dazzling. The amount of contrast in the gleams of light is simply insane; particularly on the water and hands, the light appears to be very concentrated in small spots.
This is a very powerful look and creates a very unique feel in terms of the light; it's as if each point of brightness is a focal point by itself with how strong the light reflects off it.
The subject matter of jades I feel like is expressed with this technique of lighting very nicely, as the points of light almost look like beads or jewels.
This use of symbolic quality also works very nicely with the rather dark background, and the glimmers of light look very distinctly like stars or spacial objects with their bright points. Of course, combined with the celestial colour scheme, this effect is made insanely effective.
However, in particular, the light's relationship with the crashing waves and the spray creates a high contrast and brightness to each individual water particle, which appears simply gorgeous; the particles really do look stunning and extraordinarily dazzling.
Combined with the use of colour in this image, the impact of the light becomes simply extraordinary and the impact of it all is pushed through the roof.
The very vibrant, sunset-like shade of colour in the background seems to emanate and glow this beautiful assortment of light; the reds, oranges and pinks that shine on the scene are remarkably attractive.
The subject matter of jades and jewels is made very apparent with how vibrant the light source is, and again, paired with the concentrated light pattern, a very stunning, gem-like feel is given to the lighting and colour of the image.
As mentioned before, the dark background with such vibrant, bright pinpoints of colour also conveys a spacial, astral sense, as if the points of light were stars.
Just the areas of vibrancy, especially against the contrasting darkness of the blues frequently used, is simply magical. Especially with the crashing waves, holy crap.
Combined with the greens and intricate details seen on the face of the creature, the stunning, rainbow display of light and colour becomes incredibly dynamic with stunningly explosive highlights that dazzle in every way.
Again, that interesting pattern of light combined with the perhaps even more intriguing use of colour just really hit the nail on the head for me.
I feel like such a way of expressing the two key elements is so unique and fits the theme of the image so nicely, the starry pinpoints of light and colour simply magical against the blues, and applied to the more traditionally effective features such as the waves and figure posture, the scene is heightened brilliantly in an immensely colourful and spacial manner.
I really do feel like you deserve a lot more recognition for this piece as the originality of the lighting and use of colour, as if I hadn't said it enough, is superb, particularly with those stunning waves.
