mateo is what you’d call a sensitive soul. he’s soft, he cares for others, and he’s not afraid to cry in front of others. explains why he became a psychologist, he helps people in ways not many other people do. that’s really all he wants in life, to help others in as many ways as possible. however, there’s bound to be cons to being as soft as he is. oftentimes, mateo gets to a point where he gets into a depressive episode just because he can’t help some people. despite how he knows and accepts he can’t help everyone, he can’t help but feel sad that it’s impossible. especially being a psychologist; despite how he adores his job, it takes a big toll on him.
mateo is extremely ambitious; most of the time, when he wants to do something, he will do it. despite this, he’s unnaturally cowardly. there are certain things he will do, but others he’ll actively avoid. he’s always a daydreamer, thinking about things he’d like to do and stuff he’d like to make. other things, he’d rather not even think about.
mateo is quite the soft boy, in multiple ways. both in the way of fashion and mannerisms. as said previously, he’s not afraid to be sensitive in front of others, unlike most others. he’s quite emotionally vulnerable and trusting, which sometimes leads to his downfall if someone wants to take advantage of him. being this emotionally sensitive and soft sometimes makes his job hard, as he works with many patients and becomes attached to some that need extra care. however, he's trying his best to to do better, as getting so attached means he wouldn't be able to help as many people as he could.

mateo was born in the suburbs of reno, nevada to annaliese rábano and sántiago rábano. born as the first of 5 siblings in a house that would eventually become 9, he grew up in quite a cramped house. With, of course, 4 other siblings, his grandparents, and his parents, he was living with a full house. despite being in such a large family, his family had a stable living and gave him a comfortable upbringing. his grandparents had immigrated to the united states in the 40s and settled in nevada, where his family had lived ever since. his mother being a coroner and his father being an physician, it was only natural that matty would eventually gain the knack for science. in which he did, eventually settling on wanting to become a psychologist.
he worked hard throughout middle school and high school, graduating as valedictorian of his class at 17 and moving on to get a 6 year masters degree at sierra nevada university. he really didn’t have time for friends, so his college years were quite boring. he eventually finished up his degree and wanted a job, but couldn’t find a good one for residency in his area. the one he wished for was in lichbarrow, washington, on the other side of the continent. despite his parents being hesitant about letting him go, their boy was grown. he could handle himself. so, after thorough examination of the area and finding a suitable house, mateo left his home state and arrived in lichbarrow. it seemed creepy at first, which mateo adored. creepy towns were his jive. Now that matty’s properly settled, he’s only become more in love with his new home. the abandoned houses perfect for urban exploring, the beachside view, and the quaint home he lived in made this town his heaven. he hasn’t really gotten to know his neighbors though, he’s been busy with officially moving everything in. however, he would really enjoy some company!

☂ mateo is in love with bugs. doesn’t matter what kind, but the creepier the better.
☂ matty has a partial addiction to watermelon sour patch kids. if you give him some he will actually marry you.

☂ matty is the ultimate simp. but in a good way. he’ll fall for a boy he’s never met, and being the shy baby he is, never act upon establishing an actual acquaintanceship with him. poor boy just wants a boyfriend, but never has the guts to get one.
☂ matt has scoliosis, which is a large part of his short stature. it’s chronic, so he can’t get rid of it without surgery. he’s not getting surgery. he refuses to have a rod in his back for the rest of his life.
☂ matty is really into hard rock bands like hollywood undead, iron maiden, and ac/dc. his interest comes from his younger sister being really into those bands and blasting them wherever she went. he actually liked them and started listening to them by himself. it reminds him of home.
