It's either dying or the leaves got frosted with something, it's likely they were using something to preserve the color of the strawberry but doing that usually messes with the color of the leaves.
It's sort of the same thing people do to preserve flowers, particularly roses, you can keep the flowers red but the leaves turn a brownish grey color.
