Below that: Unwanted. Banned. Illegal.
Below that: Outsider knowledge includes skin colour racism, old time politics, differentiating money systems, weather patterns, the existence of the sun, the knowledge of plants and animals and the admission of the existence of nature.
My mind stumbled over the words.
Knowing that the sun exists is illegal? Not just that, but Unwanted?
Jeremy said, “Dude, below that.”
My eyes snap back to the screen.
Below that: All Outsider knowledge is to be destroyed.
My heart starts racing. My legs tremble and I have a moment before I fall flat on my ass. Jeremy reaches down and steadies me by the shoulder. He pulls me up and I stare at the Feedscreen.
Below that. I see an in action photograph of a young man. He appears to be in his thirties. The
photograph is black and white. He looks like he’s buying an energy drink from some sort of gas station.
But I focus on his face. There’s something wrong with his face.
There’s a giant mark on it. A giant, something across the left side. I can see specks of white in
the giant grey churned side of his face. I know what those are.
My tongue steals out and runs over the bumps of my teeth.
The photograph is of me.
My heart is galloping in my ribs. I can’t breathe.
Below the photograph are three words.
To Be Destroyed.
Me.
