I so want to include the Otrari in my universe if you're okay with that. I think I've asked you before, but I mentioned I'd have to change their history just a little, since the Protheans in my headcanon weren't as dickish as they were in ME3. (They were a lot more neutral, and their goal was the advancement of knowledge rather than the spread of an empire.) What I'd want to do is, rather than the Otrari having been enslaved by the Protheans on one of their empire-building voyages, they were first discovered during the paranoid times of the Metacon War. The Protheans, in a Red Scare anti-Communism mindset, immediately demanded them to choose sides. The Otrari didn't, and were bombed so that the Zha'til couldn't use their resources. This was regretted later, much as humans regret the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
