“We need to wash you first,” she said, lifting the bucket above her head before pausing again. “Once you’re clean we can fill you with all our love. You’ll see, it’ll be nice.”
“What’s the dog for?”
“I’m afraid you’re not there yet. He’s one of the last, you know.”
The dog wagged his tail and whined, turning to the door. I began shaking from the exhaustion. The woman in the tub next to me opened her mouth with a little gasp and a line of drool fell to the floor, a flush coloring her face. Drops from the bucket plopped onto my thighs. Footsteps outside, then a burst into the room.
“Where is he? What have you done with him?”
