The White December 2023
My TWD story in order!!
Another little extra with further story developments, TWD has gone relatively smoothly for the twins even if Kras has seen his fair share of struggles along the way, however he was not alone in his struggles. Zaaria also had her own struggles to deal with on this trek however hers were much more hidden away and battled more within herself than out in the open for all eyes to see unlike her brothers misfortunes.
For a little added feels this song very much fits the vibe here! Feel free to give it a listen.

Story
Having practically passed out from exhaustion it didn't take all too long for Zaaria to drift into a heavy sleep eventually reaching that dream state. All seemed peaceful, that was until Zaaria started to flinch and whimper softly in her sleep a look of distress pulling at her features, her movements gradually becoming more frantic until she suddenly awoke from her sleep sitting up sharply with a terrified yelp, her heart racing, her breath coming at a rapid pace as beads of sweat laced her brow. Her eyes darted around her surroundings frantically as she tried to work out what had just happened, was what she had just seen real? Or had it all been some crazy vivid dream? She panted wildly as her thoughts raced trying to figure everything out in her head, until her eyes finally fell upon her brother's form across the tent. A worried look crossed her features as she quickly leaned closer gently placing her hand on his shoulder as she checked up on him, a look of utter terror in her eyes as she desperately hoped what she had seen had just been in her head and not a painful reality.
“Kras?...” she called out in a soft broken and shaky voice. As she watched him for a moment she quickly came to the realisation that he was indeed fine and was just fast asleep, a sigh of relief escaping her lips as she sat back down on her bedroll, drawing her knees to her chest and wrapping her arms around her legs as she rested her head on her knees. Tears welled up in her eyes from the utter terror and panic she had felt and from the memory of that awful dream, she began to try and calm herself by taking some deeper breaths to try and regulate her breathing back to a normal rate. After a while Zaaria had managed to settle her nerves, but the thought of sleep was daunting, she feared what else she might see if she were to fall back to sleep. Her eyes wandered looking for anything that might take her mind off of her thoughts, her gaze soon landed upon her dagger which she had placed neatly beside her bedroll prior to falling asleep.
Her mind quickly made a subtle link between her dream and the memories that her dagger held, she decided that the last thing she wanted to do right now was risk another awful dream, so she threw on her cloak and her boots before grabbing her dagger and heading out into the frozen night zipping the tent up behind her. She glanced over at Seiger and Alexa’s tent for a moment hoping that in her panic she hadn’t caused too much noise and disturbed them at all. She then looked around for a moment her guard still up from her night terror, she opted to go for a quick stroll away from camp stopping to check on the horses momentarily first, ensuring they were well tethered and that their blankets were covering them as they should.
She then opted to take a little stroll alone she opted to not venture too far making sure she could still just about see the camp sight whenever she looked back, the crisp frozen air around her companied by the peaceful silence helped to ease her mind a little and after a short stroll she decided to head back opting to take a seat on a log just a little way away from camp having dusted an area of snow from its surface before taking a seat. A shiver being sent up her spine from the frigid environment that surrounded her, she pulled her cloak over her shoulders pulling the fabric close hoping it would help offer a little more protection from the cold. Zaaria sat there momentarily in silence her eyes scanning the heavily snow covered landscape that stretched out before her, until her gaze soon shifted to the billions of twinkling stars that dusted the night sky above her head. A very subtle smile pulling at the corner of her lips for a moment as she admired the beauty of it all, all so silent and still, almost as if time had frozen for a moment.
After a moment of admiring the view Zaaria brought her attention back to her dagger, holding it so delicately in her hands as if the slightest wrong move could cause it to shatter, tears starting to well up in her eyes as her mind fixed itself upon all the memories the dagger held for her. Her eyes scanned over it for a moment as she ran her thumb over the handle softly, the tears in her eyes eventually starting to carve trails down her face, she tried to wipe them away before she then unsheathed the blade placing the cover to one side before carefully resting the blade across her palm. She couldn't help but find herself admiring how the moonlight shimmered off of not only the blade but the handle itself shades of orange and green flashed across its surface at the slightest movements accompanied by many tiny little sparkles, a weak smile pulling at her lips for a moment in awe of the daggers beauty before fading again as tears continued to roll down her face.
"What a stunning gift you left me with..." she uttered softly as a tear dripped from her cheek and landed upon the blade. She remained sat there quietly crying to herself as her mind drifted through what felt like such distant memories now yet the pain in her heart still felt as raw as it had back then all those years ago. She then recalled the song she had sung for her brother prior to having settled to sleep, the lyrics pulled at her heart as they played out in her mind. Quickly checking over her shoulder to check no one was there before she then returned her focus back to her dagger as she opted to quietly and softly sing the song, tears continuing to cascade down her cheeks.
To be continued...
