The White December 2023
My TWD story in order!!
Well one thing is for sure Kras is no seagull whisperer! Poor guy is having a tough go of things during this event, however he is definitely succeeding at providing his sister Zaaria some free entertainment along the way. It's safe to say she won't let him forget this so easily haha XD think it's also safe to say Kras would be glad to make it through this event in one piece even if his ego and pride come out of it a little in tatters lol
This technically takes place after a piece I haven't posted just yet, but the story is technically separate, I shall add the link the the previous piece below once it's uploaded! :3
Also, I know I've said it already but I'm gonna drop another little thank you here to Zoubstance for the idea of incorporating gulls into this as I was at a total loss for what to do for Kras' transport phase piece. <3 :3
Story
The transportation phase of this vast journey was a much welcomed break from being on horse back for the first phases, and though he had very much enjoyed the luxuries of the overnight train ride - more so the ability to take a refreshing warm shower and to change into something more comfortable- he did not find much comfort in this bit of rest bite, instead he found himself fretting about what was to come in the final phase. More specifically his sisters choice of steeds for their final leg of the trail - it was well known back home that the ghreb-sivili (ink-stained) steeds were seen in a bad light. The twin's father -being very much a traditionalist- was definitely one to have a negative view point on the ink-stained steeds and as such made it painfully clear to the twins to steer clear of them.
Zaaria however, very much believes that any horse regardless of its coat pattern should be given a chance to shine as brightly as others, as such she saw no issue in signing herself and Kras up to bring along two of Valhöll EC's fine spotted steeds to make up the last members of their three horse teams. A decision that Kras had very strong objections too, very much being worried what their father would think if he'd find out, but Zaaria eventually managed to smooth the idea over with him enough to get him to agree -after all they had made so many preparations for the event, to only to be unable to participate purely because one of them refused to take a certain pair of horses would have been a foolish decision. That didn't however change his views of the situation, in fact now that the final phase was looming overhead he couldn't shake the anxious feeling in the pit of his stomach nor the possible impending earful they'd receive if word got back home.
Having been so caught up in his own worries he hadn't realised just how long it had been since he last ate anything, until that empty feeling in his stomach finally snapped him out of his thoughts upon catching the smell of food emanating from further down the boat. In his distracted state he had also failed to notice Zaaria's absence and the now vacant seat beside him where she had been moments ago, that was until he saw her returning with two steaming containers, which upon her approach he could smell contained some mouth watering fish and chips.
Zaaria scooted past him to retake her seat by the window before placing the containers on the table, gently sliding one of them across the table to Kras "You need to eat!" she stated firmly as she cast him a side-eyed glare before beginning to enjoy her own food. Kras couldn't help but flash her a soft smirk.
"So you do care about me" he remarked teasingly with a quirk of a brow, his gaze soon shifting to the food before him before flashing a side-eyed look back in her direction "Thank you" he added in a softer and more sincere tone before returning his attention back to the food before him, opting to start with the succulent battered fish. Zaaria side-eyed him as he spoke, but before she could respond to his teasing tone, his gratitude was presented her way. A small smile pulled at her lips noting his very sincere tone, though she couldn't help but revel in the peace from his constant moping and brooding that the gift of food had bestowed on her.
"Y'know dad will be furious if word gets home..." Krasir muttered between mouthfuls. Zaaria's peace had been short lived it seemed, she couldn't help but let out an annoyed groan as she shot him a sharper glare.
"He won't find out!" she stated sharply, "And if he does, I'll handle it!" she added as she attempted to return to her food.
"But what if he does... and how do you intend to handle it if he does?" Kras replied with a more curious tone being placed over the last part. Zaaria instantly dropped trying to eat since it was clear he wasn't going to drop the topic, her eyes glancing out the window for just a moment before an idea struck her.
"Why don't you go and get some fresh air, perhaps it'll help clear your mind of these worries" she suggested as she returned her gaze towards him "All this stressing isn't going to change anything after all" she added. Kras was a little surprised by her change of topic, and although it seemed to him that she was trying to avoid his question he couldn't help but admit that she had a point, stressing over the situation certainly wasn't going to change things. Plus the idea of trying to clear his mind with a little fresh air did hold a certain appeal after all it would allow him a rather pretty view of the vast open water.
"Perhaps your right, perhaps I am just worrying over nothing..." he replied as he pondered her suggestion to get some fresh air. "Maybe a little fresh air couldn't hurt..." he stated as he glanced out the window for a moment. He eventually opted to take her suggestion leaving her to eat her food in peace as he clutched his own food as he headed outside. He had to admit the feeling of the wind on his face and the clear view of the horizon line were certainly a welcome change, it felt a little more peaceful out here where there was less chatter from other participants though those voices had been replaced with the calls of the various sea birds that were gliding along in the breeze.
Zaaria was right this was a great idea to clear ones head he thought to himself as he attempted to resume eating his food, only to have the chip snatched straight out of his hand by a large seagull, which was quickly followed by others swooping and snatching chips from his box, Kras tried to shoo the birds away but they kept swooping until one managed to knock the whole box of chips straight out of his hand, other gulls swiftly swooping and grabbing the falling food. Kras could only watch in despair as the greedy birds gobbled up his food, in a huff he leaned against the side of the boat resting his head on his hand with a disgruntled groan of annoyance, his eyes being caught as one of the oversized sea chickens chose to land on the side of the boat a little distance away from him clutching one of his chips.
"You're welcome, I guess..." Kras murmured in a grumpy tone, as he watched the bird take off again to rejoin the rest of the swarm, rolling his eyes. Zaaria was wrong this was a terrible idea... he thought to himself. Zaaria couldn't help but burst into hysterics upon seeing Kras' misfortune only to try and cover it up as he cast a look in her direction. He soon opted to re-join her clearly still a little annoyed over loosing his food, as he sat down beside Zaaria she couldn't help but flash a small smile his way as she scooted her remaining chips to him, stating she'd had enough. Kras was a little surprised by her offer but wasn't about to pass it up, after all he was still starving, so with a show of gratitude he accepted her kind offer, this time opting to focus on eating over his concerns regarding the final leg of the journey.
