I was an ardent supporter of ABA, before I looked up if it is traumatic and I was pretty surprised to read that a lot of clients have developed PTSD from it. Those statistics are pretty alarming, and it means that we definitely need to find an effective and non-traumatic way to help people with autism learn good coping and life skills, including how to function well and independently in society, when possible. I believe that occupational, speech and anger management therapies as well as medications for harmful symptoms (not for all, but for those who need them) started as early as possible may be good routes, and I also believe that autism professionals and people who actually have autism should collaborate on creating and executing treatments and therapies. No, I never supported trauma and cruelty to people with autism, I was just uninformed. And no, I do not support the neurodiversity movement. I feel that it glamorizes autism and other conditions. If you don’t like that, sorry kids but people won’t always agree with you.

If you don’t want autism therapy, that’s up to you. But what I find wrong is advocating against any treatment whatsoever for it, because there are people that need those.

If you think I’m misinformed on something, please politely inform me like an adult instead of acting like a butthurt middle schooler, otherwise I will delete your comment and if it gets bad enough, I will disable comments altogether. I am open to read: civil debate. If you think I forgot to include something, feel free to tell me!
