Day 24 - ToS OC's: EoS Cast
Hahaa... I've been waiting for this one o|--< of course I just had to go overambitious with my composition and sacrifice quality to make sure it was done today. Bleh. Oh well.
I have my own ToS spinoff-y-fan-comic-thing that goes into all my headcanons for the worlds shortly after they've been split, and it follows the journeys of each world's first Chosen.
The kid in the middle there with the Cruxis Crystal on his forehead is my Sylvarant's First Chosen, Xander; upon keeping in mind the fact that Spiritua was Sylvarant's first successful Chosen, I think you can imagine what happens to him.
The two with the changing hair color are Evander and Blair Finley; Evander's a healer/explosives technician and Blair's a fighter. The other girl next to Blair is Tegan, a half-elf from Asgard (which, in this timeline, is still the Balacurf Empire). And then at the top is Octavian, a Necrolancer. I'm horribly, horribly eager to tell all their stories, but I can't... o|--<
I have... many more OCs than this, too, that go along with this story. There's of course Tethe'alla's chosen, as well three Desian Grand Cardinals and a Tethe'allan Prince to name a few. This series has some of my favorite character designs I've ever done, hehe.
FUN FACT: I have too many ToS OC's from Flanoir (there's at least... five...?). Which I have learned by the way DOES ACTUALLY HAVE A CLOCKTOWER .
... Also does anyone still need a partner for Collab day? I may have forgotten to get one

This one definitely took longer than usual xD I had to go a little lazy on the coloring because of it so that I'd still meet time, but it still took a little while. It was fun, though, seeing how much composition/bold color/nice thumb I could pull together in a short amount of time without too much editing.Β

As for Collab Day, I'm not sure. I don't have a partner but all I have is colouring -I wouldn't wish my sketches on anything and by the time I'm finished inking something the day's gone, because I'm THAT slow at inking.

You've seen my lines, Kvar's sketch happened to be the cleanest of them all (the one with Infested!Lloyd is so messy I had troubles understanding what I had drawn) and I wasn't trying that much on the Asgard Trio due to gel pen >> I'll be fine PX

The left is the head of the Iselia Ranch; he's a brilliant mind from Tethe'alla who faced near-fatal injuries after a brutal human ambush on his hometown shortly after he was chosen to become a Grand Cardinal. They needed him alive, though, because of his intellect, as he'd done much of the engineering for the ranch designs' magitechnology (most notably the mana reactor and some alpha-stage exsphere manufacturing devices), so they did everything they could to keep him from dying. Ultimately, they couldn't save much of him, and he became a static entity within the ranch, unable to leave life support--he basically became the ranch, able to control everything in it remotely, stationed within the mana reactor. His body is kept running by exsphere prototypes [that will eventually kill him, as they're still just prototypes and not entirely stable; when he encounters this party he asks the half-elf to kill him so that he doesn't have to die from the exspheres]; it's a pretty miserable existence. I've modified his design at least a thousand times to try and better reflect the technology of the time, and I still don't feel like I'm spot-on, but I'm closer than I was.Β
The right is the head of the Palmacosta ranch; I don't have much on her left except her fighting style (I have notes somewhere from... years ago, but I don't know where they are since I moved)--the claw-like things that hug her body release (think spider's legs) that conduct and create electricity at their center, creating both a defensive cage around her and leaving her hands free to fight otherwise (though when she releases that electricity, she's left wide open) (I think I drew inspiration from Killia for her). She has that sort of gentle cruelty about her, that either makes you feel good or gives you chills, or both. She might've even been a trans. Again, I'd have to check my notes.Β
The third one I think I originally made a half-dwarf, but I can't remember if I canned that idea or not because it's not something that's very plausible. Either way, he didn't speak very well but he was an exceptionally brutal fighter (and he had to be--Asgard Ranch, Balacurf Empire; it took a lot of manpower to make the ranch a formidable threat against the empire). I had more info on him, but... yeah, need those notes.Β

These are beautiful 8D and their characterization, too. Poor guy though, what a horrible life.
Probably it's because dwarves are kept in captivity by Cruxis to produce keycrests. As far as I know, only dwarves can produce them and maybe enchant weapons or other pieces of equipment. Lloyd being able to use dwarven "spells" could have been an incredible boon imo, outside the fact he produced keycrests. But they let it slide ><

Well, in ToS you can find only two dwarves, Dirk and Altessa... So I guess that yes, they're controlled to such an extreme it's a wonder Dirk lived so close to the surface to find Lloyd to begin with, since I guess all the other free dwarves sealed themselves deep underground.

Mm. It's a curious scenario, something not really ever fully explained. Makes you think about how their society was affected by the world splitting and/or reuniting, or if they even bothered to care about what was going on. They probably suffered pretty heavily from the earthquakes the destruction of the mana links caused, though.Β

They're the most mysterious race in Symphonia, because nothing is known of them except they're great blacksmithing and are the only ones who can enchant items.Β The most we get to know of their society is through their Vows, which makes me think they were/are rather practical people who prefer concrete events to theory.
I always thought Lloyd had problems with books as he was raised with the mentality of a dwarf. Give him a problem he can solve with his hands and he'll do it, give him a book and watch him fall asleep instantly PX Though dwarves have got to hold society and company quite high as they got Vows about working together and never leave a person in need behind and Dirk got Lloyd on it. He's got no problems distancing half-elves from Desians once he got out of Sylvarant and saw not all half-elves are Desians, after all.

Yeah. And that's with such contrast to the rest of the world, which is probably why Lloyd thinks so different from everyone else, leading him to have those moments of brilliance and moments of stupidity; it's all societal.
Mm! The practicality thing, learning by doing, which is probably why he generally goes headfirst into everything, rather than stepping back and thinking about theories, but performing via trial and error (which he also might've gotten a liiiiiiiittle from a young Kratos, just a tiny bit... ;D), not to mention being raised with such diversity.Β

...When worded like this, it's like it's a miracle Lloyd actually came out as well as he did because he seemed to be this close to step into outcast-land. Guess that's because Dirk already had contacts in the human world, otherwise I doubt he would have built a house to raise Lloyd.
I don't like when it's dismissed so easily because "He probably got it from his mother" (Kratos remembers both Anna and Lloyd's moods changed with nothing), Anna wasn't raised by a dwarf, it has got to have had some influence on Lloyd D: Specially because it gave me so many problems for the characterization of BA!Lloyd when I thought which parts of the canon Lloyd had to go because raisedbyKvarops.
