Description EXPERIMENTAL PIECE.

I've recently come into the possession of quite a few art books, including the one for Blade of the Immortal (one of my favorite series ever), which I page through... more than often 8I;;; So I decided I wanted to try something in Samura's style of painting. It was quite interesting!

Whiskey just felt like an appropriate subject, considering I've been working on Thoroughfare all day every day recently, haha.

Ah this is a neat experiment o: very rugged and looks sorta traditional. And I can never complain about these sorts of wilder colors 8D

Thanks so much! *v* Yeah, I used an ink brush set; probably about 5/6 different ones.

Oh thank you /// The artist I emulated does all traditional, in I think oil paints? So I tried to see if I could get that same look.

It's a good attempt! I've seen some of the artist's art myself before (and googled rn just to check) and the art also have this smoothness and wholeness to it that man idk how they do it traditionally. Cries traditional masters are just too godly

I love the roughness that just blends idk how to describe it haha. I wanted to pick the manga up by the way, just hard to get started with something

Haha, it was certainly something different to try. Regardless of whether or not it came out good, it was worth doing for the experience.

But yeah, it's crazy. Especially the ones that work with really traditional/fine arts materials, and have it look effortless. Granted, this artist actually has a ton of forced effort into a lot of his paintings, but I never would've thought until I read about it, haha.

But yeah. Cool stuff.

Yeah I get that aspect effortlessness when you just see the piece finished. And yeah, that's what I think, is the amazing part of it! That cohesiveness is this collective effort that just got pieced together over the years. Cries one of the reasons why giving an effort at something is just really beautiful to realize in itself. Kinda helps in that aspect of self-motivation How did you get into making this piece btw? * D *

Absolutely *^* I spend the most time studying art like that than anything else. It's just really fascinating.

Oh, uh--it just started as some late-night doodle actually, but this morning I just wanted to try painting it. There was an afterword in the book done by the original artist, and he said in it that the most unremarkable of sketches would come out as unexpected masterpices after layer upon layer of mindlessly applying paint [and covering mistakes]. I tried to channel that sort of attitude, as that's also what the sketch was honestly, haha. I struggled at first with trying to get some kind of technique down, as it was difficult using such heavily textured brushes to get solidly hard lines and soft-feeling lines, since the strokes only came out as a sort of in-between. The palette, too, was super different from really anything I'd used before--I didn't start feeling comfortable with anything until the very end of the paint (which was disappointing, as that was when it became the most fun). But ultimately it came down to a lot of... natural, organic-feeling strokes; rough lines, but with careful placement? I've come to even further admire the artist's work because of it though, haha; the care that every stroke and every color of every stroke has is pretty mind-blowing despite looking like it was put there in half a second and without another thought about it. It's really interesting to think about, and I can't help but wonder the kind of knowledge and experience one needs to be able to work like that.

Oh man that's a lovely way of thinking when it comes to art. I try to think like that, as I've seen most concept artists to follow similar principles. In the end, it's all about this process after all. You can't expect to be perfect the first stroke in!

Yeah I noticed how things are just solid despite this general lack of the usual polish sheen digital pieces have, and I think that's what gives it a nice traditional art charm that I really like. Maybe if you do more, you'll get into a better process of it, but yes I'm curious of this thing as well! But maybe I'm a tad more lazy, but man it's just interesting to see how much people pick up along the way as they learn. But I've had artbooks do that to me too! I don't have notable ones right now though, aside from Usagi Yojimbo. Stan Sakai's well-known work ethic for being impeccably early and furnished is something I try to get by (but still failing haha.!) Cries at these talented people, they are beautiful

Indeed indeed. As a result, it's really quite a motivating thing.

Yeah. I might do more, I might not, who knows; if I do, I might even just try another artist. Oooh, I'll have to look those two up--
