Hello from ProjectComment !
This is a very nice drawing; as mentioned by the previous commenter, it is a well-contained piece, with the trees nicely framing the central scene with the man at the fire. The drop shape makes it compact, while it is more original than, say, a circle. And the way the trees are seemingly bent toward the central axis resembles a wide-angle or fisheye lens photo, which is great, and an original composition for a pen and ink drawing.
The shading is well done and I like the different textures you used for various objects and surfaces, such as the ground around the fire, the snow (clearly differentiated from the ground), the man's clothes or the branches of the trees. The man is very well stylized and fits with the environment. Perhaps the trees could be shaded in a way to better show that they are lighted by the fire, so darker on the outside and lighter towards the fire.
I would also advice paying more attention to the shapes of the trees. What do I mean: The upper parts of the trees should be shown as viewed from below. That could be achieved by different angles and shapes of the branches (even in such stylized drawing). That could make the perspective and fisheye-effect work better. (try Google Search for something like conifer fisheye for examples how this can look like).
Otherwise it is a lovely drawing, simple but interesting.
BTW, I have not known the Long Dark, but thanks to your picture I looked that up. Looks quite interesting

Hello, I'm from
My first impression of the piece is that it's a charming, well contained pen and ink piece.
Composition: I really love how simple the design is. It's cute how you contained a conifer forest in a cone shaped forest. The first thing you notice is the man warming himself on the fire, perched on his log stool. Then the flow of the piece draws your eyes up, to the bows of the forest, the snow caped needles and the starry night sky with the moon, half hidden in shadow. It looks very professional, like something you'd find in a children's book, a camping equipment logo or a card of some sort. It just has that widely applicable feel to it.
Technique: You have a lovely integration of shading techniques. It's really easy to go overboard with shading in pen and ink, but you've hit a nice balance between white space and shade. The stippling of the snow and the man is appropriate, the build up of lines on the tree's adds depth, and my favorite part is the way you used cross hatching to show the light coming off the fire.
Line Art: Overall, the lines are smooth with nice flow. You've done a little building of the lines up front, and left them a little thinner in the back, which is good, it makes it more interesting. I think that the thing that you could play with more is line varrience (how thick and thin the lines become) and line width. It's not a big thing with this piece, like I said, it looks pretty sharp. But it's something that you could play with more in the future.
I looked through your gallery and noticed that you do a lot with humans and animals, so I think you may enjoy playing around with this inking tutorial: Inking Tutorial
Charming piece!

No problem, ^^
I just thought you'd have fun with it since you mentioned that you were experimenting with pen and ink.
