Okay guys and gals, although some of you may not know it, I am a HUGE Axis Powers Hetalia fan. I watch the series, read fan art, follow hetalia artist - yea, I have it bad. I’ve been a fan of the fandom for quite some time, and I have been wanting to do Hetalia art for a while.

Anyway, although I love MANY of the countries (UK, Germany, Russia, Prussia, Italy, Canada, etc…) , I must say, I am partial to Alfred Jones (America). In reading a few fan fictions about him, I noticed that a lot of people like to turn the states into people as well, and so, I figured I would do my own take of North Carolina and turn my state into a Hetalia character. I am rather fond of her!

I decided to make her a strawberry blonde, because that seems to fit the state I think. Also, I added parts of NC to her to distinguish her. For example, I put a dogwood flower in her hair to represent the dogwood tree, which is NC’s state tree. Also, the red birds on her shirt represent the Cardinal, which is the state bird. The cowboy boots represent the “south,” and the rock at the end of her necklace is an Emerald. Some of the worlds largest Emeralds have been found in North Carolina.

Historical Facts: North Carolina was one of the original 13 US colonies and was the home (still is) to the majority of Cherokee Indians. It was one of the last of the southern states to secede from the Union and join the Confederacy. North Carolina was “first in flight,” meaning the Wright Brothers, in whom invented the plane took their first flight in NC. The oldest State University in the United States is the University of Chapel Hill.
Random Fun Facts: North Carolina is the largest producer of furniture in the entire world. Alexander County (my home!), produced the largest emerald in the United States, and houses the most churches in the US as well. North Carolina is also known for it’s apple orchards, tobacco, cotton, and live stock farming. The largest mansion in all of the United States, the “Biltmore Mansion,” can be found in NC. The Outer Banks of NC is home to some of the largest Light Houses in all of the United States as well.
Closest Relations: Well, other than being close to her “father figure” as all of the states are, I would say that Emma’s closest siblings would have to be South Carolina of course, Virginia, and Tennessee. Virginia usually has to keep the Carolina twin’s grounded for the most part, and if the states ever had love interests, I would have to say that Tennessee would be hers. They are right beside each other of course, so naturally they are “close.”
Personality: Emma aka North Carolina is spit fire of sorts I’d have to say. Although she is one of Alfred’s eldest and tends to be rather mature, Emma is very spirited and wild. She has Native American blood thickly running through her veins, and so the eastern state relates and thoroughly appreciates nature. Her hobbies include inventing, farming, and hunting, and Emma takes pride in the fact that she invented the airplane. The airplane came about due to the fact that Emma is obsessed with flying. She likes being “high up” and is constantly wanting to get into the cockpit of an airplane. Emma is also rather fond of music. Many famous musicians were born in North Carolina, and some of the United States’s most well known and popular folk songs originated in North Carolina. For that reason, Emma hums and sings quite a bit, and doesn’t care whether or not you want to hear it. She loves to laugh and joke about, but is very well known for her “harmless” gossiping and defensive nature. In other words, she is usually pleasant to be around, but just like the majority of her southern siblings, she doesn’t take to criticism very well and is very head strong in her beliefs and morals. Nevertheless, she is very mannerly and continues to honor the mannerly traditions of the southern belle.
